Bruce Gives Timescale For Return Of ‘Terrific’ Player

Javier Manquillo has been out of action for Newcastle since suffering a hamstring injury against Leicester City on New Years Day. Manquillo was the second of four Magpies to be forced off in the 3-0 defeat with Jetro Willems, Jonjo Shelvey, and Fabian Schar, all getting injured.

Manquillo is the only one of those four who is yet to return though both Jetro Willems and Jonjo Shelvey have suffered additional injuries since the match.

We saw last week that the 25-year-old was doing individual work on the training pitch, so he’s slowly edging his way back to fitness.

Steve Bruce has spoken to BBC Newcastle about the right-back, and it looks like he could be back for the Burnley match at St James Park in a couple of weeks.

Manquillo had been outstanding since coming back into the side in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City. He started the next five games before being rested for the 2-1 loss to Everton to end the year.

He returned for the Leicester City match but suffered his hamstring injury just before half-time, and only minutes after Willems went off injured.

Getting Javier back will be a boost to this team. He was outstanding defensively at the wing-back position and also did well going forward.

His return could allow Valentino Lazaro to push forward into a more natural winger role. That would be a combination we would like to see down the right flank.

Should Newcastle Sign Jetro Willems In The Summer?

    @Munster

    Just catching up with the chat from yesterday no I wouldn’t have wanted Mowbray here either but then I would probably have had him over Bruce! Would have taken Garry Monk over him as well at least for all their shortcomings they try to play football whereas I knew exactly what we were getting with Bruce before he came here!

    Thing with Bruce is he let his mouth go at the start of the season in how we were going to be playing so much better football under him than under Rafa and I have yet to see any evidence at all that we will!? Have you!?

    The only game where we created loads of chances this season has been against West Ham who were so poor it was actually worrying for them how we were dominating them so much!

    Looking at our fixtures we could quite easily lose the next 4 or 5 by a single goal while he stands on the touchline doing nothing apart from instructing us to hoof it into the box

    “Dwight Gayle is set for a Newcastle recall, according to the Daily Star, as Steve Bruce ponders dropping record signing Joelinton over his continuing struggles in front of goal.”

    From Sky well if he was set for a recall why was he not on the bench last week?

    Guys like Gayle should be getting 20 or 30 mins reserve games for a couple of weeks before just being chucked into the starting line up no wonder we can’t keep players fit

    It’s the managers speciality
    Massive injury lists

    LCBP, I think he (Gayle) was still recovering from a minor injury too? Didn’t SB say in his presser that the game had come a couple of days too early?

    It’s obvious his management “style” consists of fire fighting, utter chaos
    He is in a constant state of panic ,without any real plan
    Hence playing people just back from injuries out of desperation, putting new players straight into the team without a thought to the current ones
    No tactical plan whatsoever
    Im betting his training is straight out of the Stone Age
    It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s started to go senile

    Seems like Darren Bent must have Lascelles in his fantasy football team.

    It’s the only logical explanation for the garbage he’s spewing.

    Not sure that even a drop to League 1 would reduce the crowds below 20000, Sunderland are still getting crowds around that many I believe and they also have cr*p owners.

    @G

    Yeah he did say that but that shouldn’t mean Gayle gets chucked straight in against Palace!

    We have no other option to start him mind you!

    With Clark being injured it should really just allow us to move to a 4231 with Gayle up front and Almiron as the no 10 with ASM and Lazaro as wingers and get attacking Palace from kick off with a high press and get all 4 of them close the box to make things happen

    davo.

    It’s not complicated is it. The fans have it in their power to force him to sell up yet they continue to feed the parasite.

    If you had a tapeworm would you eat extra to feed it or would you have it removed?

    The fans may as well save the hassle of going to the match and instead send their season ticket money direct to Ashley. It’s bad enough sitting at home drinking your favourite beverage and stuffing your face with biscuits than actually having to endure the torturous 90 mins in the cold at SJP.

    droppy,
    Loved him as a player, always said he was the best CB that never played for England. Absolutely hate his association with every shit club as a manager, Villa was his best ever gig and they were in the Champo. He’s a footin loser who’ll never ever get the job he coveted most which was Man U. Should have gone and won the league in Norway instead of kicking around the lower echelons of the PL and Championship if he was to ever have got his wish.
