Excellent Start For Newcastle’s New U23 Manager

It was an excellent start to life as Newcastle’s U23 manager for Chris Hogg. In his first match in charge, the youngsters have defeated Scunthorpe United 6-2 to advance in the Premier League Cup.

It didn’t take long for the lads to get going as Tom Allan scored two goals in the first 20 minutes. That takes his season tally to 16, so he’s closing in on the 20 goal mark very quickly.

Newcastle added a third through Elliot Anderson in the 42nd minute before Scunthorpe pulled one back to make it 3-1 at the break. Lee Ryder tweeted the following about Anderson, who was playing as a defensive midfielder.

Former Magpie Yasin Ben El-Mhanni pulled Scunthorpe back to within one with a goal in the 54th minute.

The young Magpies fought back and added a fourth goal through Jack Young. The 19-year-old midfielder banged in a free-kick from 20 yards out. Young is one of the youngsters Bruce has called up to train with the first team on occasion this year.

Newcastle added another in the 77th minute with Yannick Toure scoring for a second consecutive match. The 19-year-old striker also scored with a header against Sunderland last Friday.

Defender Oisin McEntee scored in stoppage time to make the final score 6-2. The 6’3″ McEntee had trained with the first team on Wednesday.

The lads have given a performance indicative of having a new manager in charge. They’ll all be eager to impress Hogg and took care of business this afternoon.

Here is some of what the new manager said after the game to nufc.co.uk:

“I made a point to them about having a real, ruthless mentality. That’s what you’re going to need to make a career in the game. I think they showed real character to score more goals and the belief rose again and we saw the game out relatively comfortably.

“The group seems to be full of confidence and there’s some good characters in there. There seems to be a good vibe around the players at the minute.

“A lot of talk around results helps breed that and my job is to try and develop that confidence and develop certain aspects of individual game but, for sure, if we can keep the collective game strong, that helps everything tick along and helps everyone understand why we do certain things, when you’re getting results at the end of the game.”

What Will Be The Result At Crystal Palace On Saturday?

  • Loss (39%, 634 )
  • Win (34%, 547 )
  • Draw (27%, 434 )

Jail, as Mr Hogg seems to be a solid, well researched appointment, would you not conceive that somebody in the club, or the club itself, should deserve credit.? Even from a misery like you??

Betty I haven’t been on the blog too much in the last few days because most of the contributors are just repeating the same depressing stuff all the time. Maybe Tom has said something but I think it’s just general optimism re no denials, and the quality of the newspapers who said it originally?

The most frustrating thing about the constant fakeovers is that we never hear from the supposed interested parties. I understand NDAs and reputations etc but seriously… How much would it take any of, Staveley, Reuben Bros, PCP, Bin Salman, Bin Zayed, the Mexicans Orlegi Sports, Vince McMahon, Barry Moat?! Mansour before City? Literally anybody connected to just come out and say… Nah, it’s rubbish OR yes, we tried, we love your Newcastle and want you but Mike Ashley is NOT willing to sell.

I appreciate I’ve missed many more supposed interested parties and bidders and of course, many will just be rumour but my question still remains and I would ask anybody who believes any of the bid and not others… How did you decide? On faith?

Munster…………. I think he knows a lot more than he’s letting on as he’s been smugly confident that the takeover will happen for quite a while now.

Obviously I have no idea who is feeding Geordietom information and I am not suggesting he is a fully fledged itk . However I think it’s only fair he tells us despite him maybe wanting to remain loyal to his source.

I believe that some were absolute time wasters.

I also believe that the previous Staveley bid was genuine but her offers fell short of the mark.

I believe this one is real in terms of interest but will not be signed off until we are safe.

The reason I believe is because there is huge untapped potential. The revenue streams could be grown. European football is achievable with the right investment and that further grows funds and exposure.

I believe Geordietom simply started his ‘the takeover is ongoing’ remark to oppose Froggy’s continuous mantra of ‘He’ll never sell’.

He hates Froggy and it’s just snowballed from there.

Betty, you can’t actually believe that he has inside knowledge, surely?
