Newcastle Have No Answers As They Fall 1-0 To Crystal Palace

Newcastle came out unchanged after conceding a late goal in the first-half. Crystal Palace should have doubled their lead in the first few minutes.

Van Aanholt’s ball into the box found Jordan Ayew, whose shot hit the post. Then just a minute later, Van Aanholt struck another free-kick that found Gary Cahill, who headed it just wide of the far post.

For the second straight match, Newcastle were overrun in the second half. Our midfield pairing of Bentaleb and Longstaff were thoroughly outmatched and couldn’t get any grip on the game.

It took until the 69th minute to test Vincente Guaita when a long-range effort from Fabian Schar forced the Palace keeper into a save.

Steve Bruce finally made a change in the 71st minute bringing Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie on for Danny Rose and Miguel Almiron. Gayle moved to striker, and Joelinton went out to the right. Though all three forwards had been swapping positions throughout this game.

Dubravka was tested once again just a minute later by Jordan Ayew. Wilfried Zaha found the Ghanaian in the box, who was allowed far too much space, and Dubravka made another great save on his shot.

The game got very scrappy with Newcastle just unable to do anything with the ball at their feet. We had just two shots on target all game which was even lower than our league-worst average of 3.2.

To close the game, Valentino Lazaro cynically brought Zaha down to get a straight red card. This was just a dreadful display and if this team doesn’t sort themselves out quickly, it’ll be another relegation battle on Tyneside.

I still think Brucie should try wor Joe at CB. Move almost any of the forwards to striker for a game as long as they have support. Try 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2 Brucie you idiot. How could it get any worse? You can’t call Joe a striker. Might as well call Ashley an owner. Even Ritchie might grab a goal. At least he has a shot on him. I have no faith in Gayle or Muto alone up front either.

Let’s go all out and get Poch, fire bruce and say your sorry and you made a mistake, we will take that more than you apologizing for 40 mill striker that has only scored one goal.

It’s not even just the extreme lack of quality that is so frustrating, it’s the clear lack of management.

We have Bentaleb playing in a deeper role then he did when he was at Schalke where he was playing his best football.

Longstaff has proven that he can be a good number 10. That’s our two HOLDING midfielders.

Then you have Joelinton up front who is never a lone striker in a million years.

You have almiron on the right where he has proven to be ineffective throughout most of the season, he was great when moved onto the left side on his stronger foot which coincided with goals.

It’s square pegs in round holes yet again.

Bruce is way out of his depth, Hayden is our only natural deep lying midfielder and he is on the bench, matty is one of our only goal threats this season and he is on the bench.

It’s not rocket science that Bruce is clueless and was riding his luck based off the previous managers tactics. Which he even stated himself.

He has come to the club, and practically occupied the managers seat whilst doing nothing, literally, nothing.

I’ve not seen one instance and thought, wow, Bruce has obviously been using his own intuition in the training ground.

Teams must see us coming in there next match and know exactly how to set up against us because we’ve been doing it since last season with no alteration. More importantly no plan B, once we are found out we are done.

    Rant over.

Graig Hignett has been sacked by Hartlepool . He couldn’t do any worse could he? What really hurt today was that we were beaten by a free kick from an ex Mackem

    HAYDEN SHOULD BE F***ING PLAYING!!!!!

IF HE PLAYED THE LAST GAMES ALONG WITH SCHAR WE WOULD HAVE HAD A MUCH BETTER CHANCE.

SIMPLE FACT IS SEAN LONGSTAFF IS OVER RATED.

    HAYDEN IS MASSIVELY UNDER RATED.

HAYDEN IS ONE OF THE REASONS WE HAVE DONE SO WELL. HIS HARD WORK, TACKLING ABILITY AND ATTITUDE SHOULD HAVE KEPT HIM IN THE STARTING LINE UP NO QUESTIONS.

I WAS LIKING STEVE BRUCE BUT CLEARLY DOESNT NO OUR TEAM WELL ENOUGH TO BE MAKING THESE CLEAR MISTAKES!! DONKEY MATE.

HAYDEN IS ACTUALLY ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PLAYERS AND IM PISSED RIGHT OFF ABOUT THESE LAST TWO STARTING LINE UPS!!

WE ARE MUCH BETTER TEAM WITH THAT MAN. HE NEEDS TO BE STARTING NEXT TO BENTALEB.

IF YOURE GOING TO PLAY SEAN USE HIM IN THE CUP WITH HIS BROTHER!!

IT REALLY DONT TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO REALISE SCHAR IS MUCH BETTER THAN CLARK. NO OFFENCE TO CLARK WHICH I FEEL DOES A DECENT JOB WHEN CALLED UPON.

OUR BEST AVAILABLE LINE UPS THESE LAST TWO GAMES WOULD BE THIS

    ——FERNANDEZ— LASCELLES—SCHAR——
    LAZARO—-HAYDEN—-BENTALEB—-RITCHIE
    —–ALMIRON—-JOELINTON—-MAXIMIN——

ITS A TOUGH ONE WITH RITCHIE AND ROSE BUT I FEEL ROSE IS LESS ATTACKING MINDED AND RITCHIE WOULD PRESS TEAMS WITH THE THOSE FRONT 3 AHEAD OF HIM. ROSE WOULD BE GOOD 2ND HALF TO SURE UP GAMES. ALSO HES JUST ARRIVED LETS SHOW HIM ITS NOT THAT EASY TO JUST WALK STRAIGHT IN TO OUR TEAM!!

I do not want to be disrespectful to Steve Bruce, he was a pro footballer, a decent CB and is a allegedly a good ‘man-manager’.
But you do not earn the lowest Premier League points record if you are a top manager/coach.
We are shocking to watch. Relegation Risk without a shadow of doubt.

I genuinely believe there has been a conversation in Jan between Ash, Charn and Bruce where the ‘Educated Guess Work’ between them was there were enough points at this stage, all downhill and mid-table certainty.

Bruce nodding his head in confidence, Ash knows no outlay needed -AGAIN.

We as fans knew the football, possession, tactics were league one – speaks volumes they didnt.

But in Bruce and CharnLIE it’s about self- preservation! Tell Ash what he wants to hear
” Dont need to spend Boss”

I just hope the risk of dropping, prompts Ash to now sell AND somehow we stay up.

(Sorry for length of post, just bloody sick of this management structure)

Imagine not singing a striker in January when you’re combined forwards have scored ONE all season. Hahahaha honestly, I don’t even care if we get relegated we deserve it with the incompetent fools running this club. In fact, it might really be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for the fans.

That was a Palace side in dreadful form themselves, by the way.

NUFC hierarchy’s motto at times is let others do the panicking. But the trend of performances can’t be ignored – and how about that decision not to sign a striker…?

Only way out of this is MA leaving to hand it over to someone who can do more to help it improve both on and off the club. He has no more excuses, he should sell up take the money and choke on his own vomit into a fireplace.

    Graft but no craft.

Any positives in a game we deserved to lose?

He tried a couple different things. Moved ASM to a striker’s position, Joelinton further back. Didn’t work, but it was tried.

Did Gayle touch the ball. Steve, never substitute Almiron. He’s tireless and can carry the ball.

Biggest stinkers out of many out if firm players? Bentaleb and Schar.

    Anyway. Onwards and upwards!?

Champagne to Tizer. More like champagne to bin juice.

Did we ever get to the bottom of what number choice of manager Bruce was? 11th or 12th, something like that.

Speaks volumes that the name of NUFC is so sullied in the football world that we are avoided like the plague by anyone remotely ambitious.

The stats do not lie (poor attack and possession on the ball), we have a manager who cannot give us fans entertainment or positive play with Bruce philosophy (play not to lose). We will stay up this season, we deserve so much more then being relegation candidates year on year, our stature and fanbase will continue to crumble to dust if Cashly remains.

Bruce is so far out of his depth. Clueless serial loser.

I don’t think gayle touched the ball even once. I don’t even care if we get relegated. This team will get dominated in the championship.

Watching NUFC is like some sick addiction. It steals your time puts you in a foul mood. Even when we win, there has to be some crazy intervention, this season winning hasn’t even felt very good. More the attitude like “well we just managed to scrape through that.” But we all know this…yet still we watch, and support. It makes you question your own phycological state.

Eventhough, the big teams have devalued the greatest cup competition ever – The FA Cup , I hope he puts not his but our strongest side out against West Brom. Let’s face it it’s the furthest we’ve got in the sad Ashley times and I’d just love it , Yeah Love it ! if we won it. Despite a large pink elephant just flying past our window. Season usually over by January . Well this season extended to March.

Saxon he had more than one breakdown. It’s well known that hes not right mentally. It was thought the move up here would help him, and it still might, hes not playing awful, but hes definitely not playing at anywhere near the level hes capable of yet.

At Arsenal he looked scared on the ball and like he didnt want it.

Longstaff, Bentaleb, Rose, Joelinton were all crap, drop them all.
    No tactics.
Far too late to get Gayle on
then leaves Joelinton on and takes Miggy off? – FFS
The only decent loan signing is now banned.
Dubs – Maxi – Ritchie doing their best.

    GOING DOWN IF NOTHING CHANGES.

I had really hoped that Bruce would work out as we’ll get nobody any better whilst we have fat Mike at the wheel, but we are in real danger of another relegation. And this time there would be no immediate return, no takeover and a half empty SJP. We don’t have bad players but Bruce has demonstrated he is incapable of getting a tune out of them. I am sick and tired of hearing him spout about us not being good enough and that we need to lick wor wounds. Cliche after cliche. We were playing a struggling Palace team today but were unable to take the game to them. Sacking him is not an option though as no decent manager with any intelligence or ambition would take the job, as was proven in the summer! Our only hope is that we scrape over the line and the takeover happens and we get to press the reset button. The alternative scenario is not worth contemplating. It’s like a living death following this club!
