Former Magpie Finds Home In Bulgaria After 6 Months Without A Club

Former Newcastle midfielder/right back Vurnon Anita has finally linked up with a club after having his contract mutually terminated with Leeds last summer.

Anita has joined Bulgarian side CSKA-Sofia on a four-month contract with an option for another year.

The 30-year-old was training at Ajax for the last few months. Vurnon is a product of the famous Ajax Academy. He left the Amsterdam club in 2012 to join Newcastle.

Anita made 155 appearances at Newcastle, which is still his most represented club. He joined Leeds as a free agent in 2017 after we achieved promotion from the Championship.

Vurnon struggled to get games at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa and spent last season on loan at Willem II in the Eredivisie. He was ultimately released from Leeds this past September.

We’re glad Vurnon has finally found a home, and hopefully, he can do well in Bulgaria. Sofia are historically the most successful club in Bulgaria, winning 31 titles and finishing second another 25 times. Though Ludogorets are now the dominant team having won the last 8 league titles.

What Will Be The Result Against Burnley On Saturday?

  • Loss (50%, 841 )
  • Win (31%, 528 )
  • Draw (19%, 314 )

Don’t blame you. Anonymity is an advantage I find.
Back in the day all the great bands (the ones that achieved greatness), just used to tour the UK in vans. I saw all of them; the Who, the Cream, Animals, Kinks, Stones, but I think one of the best concerts was the Stax tour with Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Arthur Conley, Sam and Dave etc etc etc. Did you catch that one!

    missed the bus

Moonraker – No but I bet it was good, the Stax label was great music then.

Strangeley enough the best group (musicians) I saw (at The Sands Club – old Library above Whitley bus station) was The Fortunes (really didn’t like the music though), they had a hit single out in early 1972 called “Storm in a teacup” and when they performed it I had to keep checking that they weren’t miming as it was almost indistinguishable from the record. I didn’t like their music but they were great musicians.

The Sands was going downhill then as the “Burgundy Cobbler” had opened in South Parade.

Dont remember Vern ever disgracing himself in our shirt? Not brilliant, but usually committed. Good luck to him.

Anita was another prime example of newcastles scouting, throwing money away on naff players.
Sometimes its not just what MA hasn’t spent but how much has been wasted.

OLDHAM could be up s**t creek as ex-director Simon Blitz bids to call in a debt of £500,000.
The move comes after HMRC tabled a winding – up order over £70,000 in unpaid tax.
    Football on a sorry state

I think Anita was a bit small for the modern game but thought he’d get a good club in the Championship!

I remember the Fortunes the had a big hit with “You’ve got your Troubles”
You’re right though the quality of these bands live was actually better than their records !

    Good days !

if Bruce tries playing attacking football we will lose and then he will decide again to go back to playing the only way we can to get points. it’s not Bruce’s fault as it was Rafa who realised this.

A prem footy team UNABLE to handle playing in a back 4??? A formation that every kid was brought up with and 99% have played in all the way the age ranges and one which 90% play in the PL now..

Id say all of the players have played in teams with a back 4, time to stop the excuses and man up.

Lascelles, Fede and Lejeune are better in a back 4 imo, Schar probs better on the right of a 3. Rose played LB for spurs and england.

Coach and manager are employed to train the players into a system that works. If they cant do that then they shouldnt be there.

Its upto the coaches and manager to train them, if they cant do that then they shouldnty be there

If Rafa had manned up and told the club he’d signed for a Chinese club

Shame on you for actually thinking the idiot that goes by the name of welshgeordie9 wanted to discuss Anita, I didn’t mind him(Anita) actually but he was hardly a fan favourite and that is the only reason the clown from the Valleys decided to champion him, because he thought most toon fans didn’t like him.
