Young Magpie Can Still Play A Part Despite Contract Situation

Last week, there was a report claiming that both Inter Milan and Marseille are very interested in bringing Matty Longstaff in this summer.

The 19-year-old would be available for a compensation fee of just £400k when his contract expires in four months. With Newcastle and the young Geordie currently enmeshed in a contract dispute, the situation is getting more dire by the day.

Newcastle are offering Matty a deal with terms that are better than they usually offer to a player of his age and stature at the club. However, the midfielder feels he should get a deal more in line with his first-team standing. At least that is what is being reported.

As this stalemate lingers, there’s likely to be more clubs popping up with reported interest in Longstaff. In fact, the Chronicle have an exclusive this morning that an unnamed European club are the first to offer Matty a deal.

The mystery club has reportedly kept their interest quiet but are hoping to get Matty to join them in July when his contract expires. Matty is still on the £850 per week deal he signed in 2018.

We don’t expect Matty to agree to sign with a club anytime soon. He’ll likely still hope that Newcastle soften their stance a bit so he can continue with his hometown club.

We expect the youngster, who didn’t make the bench yesterday, to play a part at West Brom on Tuesday. Hopefully, he can get some opportunities in the league over the final 10 games.

Matty is currently joint third in goals scored with Joelinton. They both have three goals this season. So maybe it can be Matty who can build on that total if given a chance in the next few months.

But most importantly, Newcastle need to get him signed up before a club comes in with an offer he can’t refuse.

Who Was Newcastle's Best Player In 0-0 Draw Against Burnley?

  • Miguel Almiron (39%, 496 )
  • Jonjo Shelvey (16%, 202 )
  • Matt Ritchie (12%, 153 )
  • Dwight Gayle (9%, 109 )
  • Martin Dubravka (7%, 93 )
  • Javier Manquillo (6%, 74 )
  • Joelinton (5%, 60 )
  • Federico Fernandez (2%, 26 )
  • Jamaal Lascelles (2%, 21 )
  • A. Saint-Maximin (1%, 13 )
  • Danny Rose (1%, 12 )
  • Isaac Hayden (1%, 11 )

Nufc-83, do you really believe out of all these interested parties we’ve had over the years, not one has been able to meet Mike Ashley’s valuation of the club?

MagpieRanger at 34, exactly what might have been. Hopefully things don’t repeat themselves and pif buy wet spam or whoever and in however many years we end up saying what might have been as they win cups and titles whilst we languish in mediocrity for next dozens of years until MA leaves in a wooden box or club is wound up.

Just curious Anglo, who proved that mate? Ashley couldn’t care less what we think or Bruce wouldn’t be here, let alone AC. No point checking blogs if you don’t care is there?

Half time and City should’ve been out of sight, but now Villa are back in it. Sticking with my 3-1 prediction though.

Magpie Ranger yes I do. Do you really believe that someone has offered Ashley 350m and he has walked away? There has not been many groups with any substance in discussion from what we know.

Nufc-83 remember MA own words with that BZG bid, “The last bid, the one from UAE, he’s a prince and he’s got £38bn or £100bn, all these numbers — well, why would you even care what you’re paying then?. What’s another 10million or so”

Definitely sounds like no bid then. His own words and you still question the authenticity of it. Seriously some people really are happy with their heads in the sand.

Jail, yeah he’s out injured mate. Dunno what it is, just what they said at the start. Even without him though, they’re purring along and looking comfortable. They’re always slightly vulnerable at the back though aren’t they? We scored two against them after all!! 😀

So when we desperately needed a striker and we had scouted 10m Samatta for months, some egghead decides to not pursue it. You have to despair at the negligence of the club in just about everything.

Investinyouth that comment doesn’t necessarily mean that a formal bid was lodged. It’s likely they were sounding out Ashley’s team on the price and trying to knock expectations down before getting into it. I am guessing Ashley will be pretty persistent in the fact that if it’s 350m it’s 350m end of story.

83, I’m with you on this. Staveley said her offer is still on the table – problem is it’s 100m short of what he wants. Nobody has ever come out and said they’ve offered him his price, even after negotiations have finished. I think he’ll go if he gets what he wants and not before.
I can’t raise that money, which is why I don’t get overly upset about it because I can’t change it. He’s a knob and totally clueless about how to run a football club but there’s nothing I can do about it.

Anglo, of course he sanctioned it, its his call, but until Bruce suggested it he was happy to leave it how it was. You can’t have it both ways mate. Either he’s a greedy twat who only thinks about money or he isn’t. Not saying he did it out of the goodness of his heart – because I question whether he has one – but Bruce asked the question and he agreed. He did it for Bruce, not because he’s bothered about empty seats.
City were on TV the other day with a half empty stadium.
