First Choice Defender Is Relaxed About Contract Amidst Interest From Foreign Clubs

When the season started, both Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez were on the outside in terms of first-team places. Even with Florian Lejeune rehabbing from his knee injury, both Ciaran and Fede did not make a start in the league for the first two months of the season.

Bruce preferred a back three of Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, and Paul Dummett to start the campaign. However, a combination of injuries and rotation saw both players get chances that they refused to relinquish.

In the case of Federico Fernandez, it was an injury to Fabian Schar that cleared a path for the Argentine into the first team.

Fernandez made his first start against Wolves in October when Fabian Schar was ruled out with a knee injury. He’s kept his place and started every Premier League game since while scoring a couple of critical goals against West Ham and Southampton.

However, Fede is one of many Magpies whose future at the club are still up in the air. Last week, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie tweeted the following about Federico Fernandez.

The Chronicle are reporting that the 31-year-old is attracting attention from clubs in China, Russia, and the Middle East with his contract set to expire in four months.

However, they are also claiming that Fernandez is keen to continue his career with Newcastle. The club have an option to extend his contract for another year, which we have to assume they will do.

Fernandez is reportedly very happy on Tyneside and will likely hope he can work out an extension beyond just next year if Newcastle do trigger their option.

According to the Chronicle, Fede is relaxed about the situation and, despite interest from elsewhere, feels there is plenty of time to work something out with Newcastle.

With Steve Bruce transitioning to a back four last weekend, Fernandez has still managed to keep Fabian Schar out of the team. It’ll be interesting who Bruce selects at center-back against West Brom tomorrow and if he’ll stick with the new formation.

Whatever he decides, we’ll likely see Fernandez get the nod once again at Southampton on Saturday to make his 20th straight start in the Premier League.

Wondering and Yes I know he is 30 right now.
Sturridge is now a free agent and will be able to sign for a team outside of the current transfer window.

The 30-year-old joined Trabzonspor in the summer following his release from Liverpool and has since scored seven goals in 13 appearances.

Worth getting him for the remainder of the season?

    geordietom,
Aye, maybe not, would be pointless sacking Carroll off for another sick note. Not sure how that works

Don’t we have room now with Dums and Jetro out for the season?
Maybe I’m not seeing it right, but both still retain a squad number although are both out for the season?
Maybe someone knows how that works?

Just a Fan: Marondale is the road which joins Kentmere and Borrowdale. It is a T shape and the Burdons lived up the Cul de-sac. That’s all I’m saying. Don’t want to give the number away :0)

So Brucie telling us that unless you’re a top one it’s going to take a year to adjust to the PL. So an admission that a guy “he” spent 38/40M pounds on isn’t exactly a top one. The less this clown says tge better I would think.

Wouldn’t touch Sturridge in a million years, for one he is a total crock and two he isn’t any better than Gayle….he lived of his one good season where let’s be honest it was all down to Suarez making him look a lot better than he was

He stated that there was a lot of empty seats, he estimated that the attendance was about 45,000 ish.
that post was posted on either Sat or Sun.
I’ve looked back and cannot find the post.
Can you confirm if this post was taken down? Thanks in advance.

We would not be able to bring in Sturridge now, he would only have been able to sign for a premier league club if his contract was terminated while the window was still open, like we did with Ki

Anglo Saxon:I think the Frog said 45k or so at the match. Someone else did mention maybe 2k or so empty seats. Neither right i suspect. From my view not a free seat in the house, apart from the odd single which always happens. I’d reckon biggest real gate of the season.

We all know that 10,000 tickets or so aren’t paid for, but no need to go making things up

Jail, Sturridge was a stupid move by Rafa as he was a perma crock at the time. Although, one assumes that if we had goy him, and he got injured, you would blame Charnley? What a plum.

It depends on his state of health, and i have no idea about that.

Serious black mark against Nickson for scouting Joel and presumeably recommending him.

It’s all well and good to know about his mental fortitude and what he eats for breakfast but sometimes the bigger picture is more important.

    Very poor.

Just a Fan. I could see the East Stand and almost all of the spaces found there of late, were taken up. You’re right, there’s hardly a seat in the ground (if any) where you can see all. The Leazes L7 was full, that with my view of East Stand made me think as near to a full house as we’ve had all year.

    From Billson

On inventing stuff on this blog…

Here’s lesh continuing to spot one of the blog’s biggest myths…

“bills son one of Ashley’s front-line ambassadors”.

    For the record YET AGAIN…

Ashley has no ambition for the club – I want him out – ASAP.

Lesh, and others, have the set mind that if you doubt any of the ridiculous NUFC conspiracy theories or don’t rubbish any positive talk or don’t forecast definite doom, gloom and relegation…

You are one of “Ashley’s front-line ambassadors”.

Lesh is at the forefront of the front line boneheads.

    ….Hole in one Billson.

My ‘utter tripe’ was a reaction to your assertion that Price got some credit, royalties because there was only room for one name on the record label. You made no mention of his arranger status or the PRS.

Why not think before copying the first thing google throws up for you.

It was not too long ago that he said he did not accept an offer from villa (home town club) because he wanted to continue helping Trasonsper(?) reach the Champions League.
