Bentaleb, Lazaro, And Saint-Maximin All Start At West Brom

This is the team that Steve Bruce has selected for tonight’s FA Cup match at West Bromwich Albion. It has six changes from the Burnley match.

It looks like Bruce will keep with the formation he implemented for Burnley with four at the back. The only change in defense sees Fabian Schar come in for Federico Fernandez.

Joelinton will move back to striker with Allan Saint-Maximin on the left and Valentino Lazaro on the right. It’ll be interesting to see how Lazaro fares in a more advanced role.

Sean Longstaff and Nabil Bentaleb are the midfield pairing with Miguel Almiron playing as a number 10 once again. This is a very strong side as Bruce has kept his promise to go for it in this competition.

This is who Slaven Bilic has picked for the hosts.

Newcastle have reached the fifth round for the first time since 2006. That season Newcastle defeated Southampton 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals. Tonight is an excellent opportunity to continue our FA Cup run by getting a win over this West Brom side.

Howay The Lads!

No youngsters in the line up, pity.

Apart from Matty of course who I see as 1st team anyway.

4-2-3-1, with Lazaro, Almiron, and Maximin the three behind the striker. West Brom are for the sword here.

I’m fairly happy with that line up, possibly Hayden in over Bentaleb but the latter hopefully will start putting in better performances.

Lazaro should be eager to impress. Pleased Manquillo starts over Yedlin.

Just hope the 5k fans who’ve gone get something to cheer about!

I’m going 2-1 toon with Longstaff and……. Joelinton to score

So you think ASM was actually injured on Saturday then?

Hamstring and back pain that miraculously healed in 3 days?

Can’t stand Craig Hope but it’s more believable than a miracle hamstring cure.

Jib from previous, fair point re Keith Downie and his trouble making ways.

Obviously just letting his mouth go for no reason other than stirring the pot.

Probably sat there laughing at gullible Geordies.

“West Brom make nine changes to the team which lost against Wigan last Saturday. Charlie Austin starts up front as he did in the fourth-round win over West Ham and Chris Brunt and Gareth Barry take their place in midfield as Slaven Bilic reverts to his FA Cup team.”

I suppose it’s possible that Maximin is playing as the striker and Joelinton is keeping his place on the left.

Bill’s son said £60m for ASM would be good business and you reckon he was right?

Under a different, ambitious owner, possibly but with Ashley, where do you think the £60m would go?

Jib on last thread re Craig hope

You may well be right and he’s actually either shit stirring or putting 2 and 2 together and getting 11. Imo he is trying to disrupt or unsettle one of a handful of players for us who has performed and has potential to develop ever further. Daily fail has never been a respected paper nor has the sun especially with those takeover claims last year.

However it is his opinion which he’s printed, and that is more or less what people do on here. Unless you’re on the inside or you know the players feelings then we’re all just guessing

    lesh,

    Give it a rest.

I support Ashley because I’d sell ASM for £60M?

    Er no…

IMO we’d do better selling him and buying Shaquiri for £25M-£30M, he’s full of trickery but with an end result.

I’m not saying we should sell ASM because he might become a big player, but if a team offered £60M now I’d snatch their hand off – just as I would have done if Man U had offered £30M for Sean.

On Ashley, here’s one that made me laugh…

Someone earlier on Jo – did MA buy him to upset the Geordie nation?

This is just the type of absolute bollix that I can’t help rubbishing.

On the one hand MA is a tight, greedy FCB…

And on the other he spends £40M on a dud just to pi$$ us off and in the process possibly lose the Prem money the FCB loves to trouser by putting us in danger of getting relegated???

And I get called an Ashley lover for laughing at that tripe…

    Yeh right.

I’m obviously going for a win tonight and will settle for 1-0, but hope for more. Our 74 final was preceeded by two replays against lower league sides and then a win at West Brom…. 😀

And if ASM’s perceived to be a maverick, not a team player, so was Robert for example as was Ben Arfa.

Players like them need to be managed and it might be the case that Mr Bruce isn’t up to getting the best out of mavericks?

That’s a very strong team and an interesting one. We are playing to player’s strengths for a change, well apart from Joelinton who is more comfortable on the wing or number 10 role than striker. But this is great to see us set up in a more attacking formation. I am very pleased Brucie has stuck with 4 at the back.

Think we’ll win this with all three of Joelinton, ASM and Lazaro to get on the score sheet.

    HWTL!

The story around ASM stinks whichever angle you look at it from. Anyway he’s in the team so let’s hope he’s in the mood to roast them Baggies as I can’t see a lot more creativity other than Miggy. The question is who’s gonna put it in the net unless one of the aforementioned does a solo job.

ASM being the worst trainer in the squad is no big secret, I’ve heard it from a number of sources.

I doubt Bruce is the kind of manager who gets too uptight about these things, unlike, for eg, wor Rafa who demanded one hundred percent commitment at all times.

Not saying one is more right then the other, btw, just that a lack of discipline for ASM is likely more easily tolerated than in the past and unlikely to lead to a big fall out.

Plenty of changes for #NUFC but it’s still a strong enough team to win this tie.

The midfield pairing of Sean Longstaff and Nabil Bentaleb needs to step up and improve on poor performances of late.

Intrigued to see how Valentino Lazaro plays in a more suited role!

    lesh,

Ben Arfa wasn’t in Robert’s league as a genuine top NUFC player.

Robert scored goals, got loads of assists and was a regular in the team while he was here.

Ben Arfa had fantastic skills, scored some fantastic goals, but no better than some of Robert’s best – but Robert did it far more consistently.

ASM hasn’t done anything yet to be mentioned in the same breath as those two NUFC legends.
