Watch All Three Of Newcastle’s FA Cup Goals At The Hawthorns

The worry heading into the FA Cup match this evening was whether Newcastle would be able to score any goals in order to advance. They answered that question with a resounding yes as they jumped out to 3-0 lead early in the second half.

The lads got a little complacent after Lazaro’s goal put them up by three. However, we had built up enough of a lead to see out the match with a 3-2 victory.

It all started with Miguel Almiron’s 33rd-minute strike below. This was just fantastic from Allan Saint-Maximin, who started sluggishly but came to life after a 30-yard strike hit the post just minutes before this goal.

Miguel added a second goal just before the break when Joelinton back-heeled the ball in the box for the Paraguayan to run onto and blast into the net.

Then just minutes after the break, Almiron stroked the ball across the pitch to Saint-Maximin in space. The Frenchman crossed the ball, and fortunately, Jonathan Bond couldn’t handle it as it bounced off Lazaro and into the net.

Looks like Miggy takes MOM by a a country mile. Joey Boy had one of his best games but he’ll never be a 20-30 goal a season man!

Joelinton was excellent tonight. His defensive work when we were under the cosh in the second half was commendable.

Most of team played well. Miggy will get, and deserves the plaudits. Longstaff still looking poor, Bentileb clumsy, Darlow was ridicoulous for both WBA goals, and if it wasnt for fatty clearing off the line it would have been 3-3.

Enjoyed the 1st 60 mins of the game, we played some good stuff, pity we nearly self destructed again, nothing ids straight forward with us lot is it.
Longstaff has proved again that he just is not good enough and Rose is,nt a better option than we already have.
I thought the front 4 looked quality going forward and we should stick with it. Will Bruce do that, of course not.

We should give Benfica a ring about the end of season availability of the WBA sub Filip Krovinavic. He looked quite a player and very nearly swung the game for them.

I listened to the match so whether we played in orange, green or pink made not one hot of difference to me.

If posting a smartarse comment helped you feel better, that’s fine by me.

New house = no tv, no tv license, no house wifi so had to listen on the radio app….

Was really enjoyable up until the end. Well done for winning but frustrating to let them back in it – that’s cup football though.

Into the quarters for first time under MA, perhaps the tide is turning lol.

God who would be a Newcastle supporter. Bentaleb no thank you Sean please get back to what you were last season. Great first half, Miggy his little face, oh my god he’s so good. Maxi and Joe very good. Lazaro just for his looks alone did well. Second half what can you say. My blood pressure went sky high. Think Schar dropped his standards late on. Think Rose was ok. Would have subbed Bentaleb and maybe brought Hayden on. Anyway we’ll done lads. And what about them fans AMAZING.

Decent game lads although we always bottle it, ALWAYS.
    My player ratings:
Darlow – 6 – Some good saves but kept giving the ball away on rebounds.
Manquillo – 7 – Looked solid and decent crossing/attacking support
Lascelles – 6 – Decent performance just OK
    Schar – 7 – Looked lively
Rose – 7 – A lot better today just needs to cut out errors
Bentaleb – 4 – Awful again does nothing for us always gives the ball away can’t defend and fouls too often
Longstaff – 5 – slightly better because he can kind of pass but can’t shoot, keep the ball or do anything special, another poor performance
Almiron – 8 – Incredible performance just needs to stop giving the ball away in our own half
ASM – 8 – Two great assists offered something different
Lazaro – 6 – looked decent but didn’t contribute enough
    SUBS
Shelvey – 5 – bought on too slow things down looked tired and lazy
Gayle – 4 – messed up a sitter and didn’t have much to shout about
Lejuene – didn’t play enough to be rated
BRUCE – 5/10 – got the initial line up good but still manages to make us shit second half and nearly bottle a 3-0 lead to a championship side, oh well it is in our DNA I guess 🙂

Moral of the story : Never, ever play bentaleb and longstaff together again and they are the worst two midfielders at the club, HOWAY THE LADS

Commentators saying Sean blazed two over the bar with too much power but then didn’t have the power with accurate shots.

    Something seems wrong there.

Would Dubs have saved any of the WBA goals?

We’re into the quarter finals of the cup but still the Benitez arse-lickers are looking for ways to belittle the performance of the team and the manager because that suits their pathetic little agenda.

First one was a decent hit, into the ground always harder to stop.

    Second was sloppy all round.

Dubs would’ve commanded defence better for sure.

Darlow claimed crosses really well but he made heavy work of shots at him.

He will be away in summer anyway

I’m with Virgin, they have good offers for new customers and the broadband is excellent.

Obviously shop around though and if you do go with Virgin they will try to put your bill up loads once you’re an established customer. Sky do the same.

I’ve missed much of the blog today, but can we say that Hope was up to tricks today as he clearly has an agenda. If so, how seriously do we take him. I’m sure some want to believe every word because he batters Bruce, and some is deserved, but then we can see here that some almost enjoy the mockery etc when we concede goals.

Taking Miggy and ASM off at 3 0 made sense to save them for Saturday. However it showed how much we rely on them to bring the ball forward. Bringing Gayle on should have given us an out ball but somehow it didn’t work. Easy to blame Bruce with 20 20 hindsight but the subs seemed sensible at the time!

Tof, come now. You know the equation.
Rafa slags off Ashley, therefore a hero. Bruce isn’t as good, doesn’t slag off Ashley, there fore he’s scum. Simple really. And he has Joe Linton, so Rotunda thinks he should be doing better than benitez. U cudnt make that up.

Just watched the interview on SSN.

    Bruce was taking questions.

Hope tried to ask him something and he just said “I’m not going to talk to you Craig”

When he asked why he said “Outright lies, I’m glad your source was wrong, you’ve tried to derail us again!”

Hope mumbled something else and you could see the anger.

Bruce said “Are you calling me a liar? I’ve not fallen out with Saint Maximin, but your headline said I had”

    He was fuming.

Hope has always struck me as a total pr*ck. He’s been getting dogs abuse on Twitter, I may have chimed in.

Martoon, nó he was punishing maxi because the had a bust up. Obviously. :). Seems like a fair couple of subs. Maxi is probably not fit, and Miggy will be down to stumps at this rate. At least if we stay up (if) and we kept both, we know what’s needed apart from a striker. 2 decent understudies for these two vital cogs.

Bruce picked the right team tonight, he has stuck to his word and gone for it in the cup.

Taking off Miggy and ASM was sensible but dropping way back was the cause of the problems, it doesn’t work.

I’ve given him stick and will again, but he’s doing ok and he deserves the result tonight.

Also got a lot more respect for him after seeing that interview, cannot doubt that he cares.

    For the record.

I loved Rafa, I loved what he wanted for the club, I loved that he brought the fans hope. Yes his football wasn’t always pretty and some of his subs confused me. He seemed to just write players off and there was no way back for them, but he was a hell of a coach.

Bruce I didn’t want, his track record is awful, he seemed like another desperate yes man. He got points on the board early on and has ridden his luck at times. He’s finally showed he can change tactics and he’s gotten us one win from Wembley. He’s never going to be my favourite but he deserves credit when it’s due.
