Who Did Our Readers Select As The Best Player At West Brom?

The events of Tuesday evening were a rarity for Newcastle fans of late. Not only did Newcastle score three goals and play some entertaining football, but every Magpie put in a solid display.

Bruce once again went with the 4-2-3-1 formation, which he’ll likely stick with going forward. While it produced 21 shots against Burnley on Saturday, it proved much more lethal against West Brom.

Newcastle managed seven shots on target keeping Jonathan Bond busy in the West Brom net. Three of those shots went in for goals, and Newcastle looked bound to breeze through to the sixth round.

However, West Brom made some changes and Newcastle got too complacent. The Baggies scored two sloppy goals late to make it a bit nervy in the end.

But it was enough to get through to the quarter-finals where we’ll face Manchester City at St James Park.

The poll for the West Brom match was not even close. As one would expect, Miguel Almiron easily wins the poll as the Man of the Match.

It’s the second week in a row that the 26-year-old has been voted as the best player. We think Newcastle fans really rate Miguel as a number 10.

Out of the 2199 total votes, Almiron has collected 80% to easily run away with the poll.

Newcastle’s other attackers round out the top four with Allan Saint-Maximin coming in second on 9%. Joelinton gets third with 5%, and our other goal scorer, Valentino Lazaro, comes in fourth place.

We can’t wait to see if Newcastle can replicate this performance this weekend at Southampton.

Who Was Newcastle's Man Of The Match In FA Cup Win At West Brom?

  • Miguel Almiron (80%, 1,769 )
  • A. Saint-Maximin (9%, 207 )
  • Joelinton (5%, 111 )
  • Valentino Lazaro (2%, 38 )
  • Javier Manquillo (1%, 20 )
  • Nabil Bentaleb (1%, 14 )
  • Karl Darlow (0%, 9 )
  • Sean Longstaff (0%, 9 )
  • Fabian Schar (0%, 6 )
  • Danny Rose (0%, 5 )
  • Jonjo Shelvey (0%, 4 )
  • Dwight Gayle (0%, 4 )
  • Jamaal Lascelles (0%, 3 )

Total Voters: 2,199

That twitter clip of Dier was boring compared to the clips of WBA fans loving our away fans.

The singing for Miggy was awesome

Oh Spurs losing the plot. He’ll be getting a lengthy ban, or does that just happen to player’s like Shelvey? Well done Timmy, great at saving penalties. New he would do it. Did you see his water bottle. All the names of the players taking the penalties and which way they place them.

No sign of the Pilau Rice the night?

Jib’ll feel a bit miffed – he’s been batting for Ashley for hours. Or has he just been discussing the club’s finances for the sake of making polite conversation?

    That was ages ago.

It’s been very pleasant on here today for the most part.

Apart from the brief appearance of the poster named after a sharp object when he’s clearly anything but.

So who we getting in the semis?

    Brill hey carltoon. Love it

Dier was beyond Pardew headbutt level of stupidity. Some deep frustrations running in spurs background but to run into the crowd of home fans is not the answer.

Ok, so tough draw I guess but we can raise our game and beat them at home.

The question is and I know some will get slightly pissed off that I may say this, but does winning the FA Cup and a place in Europe just mean Ashley will only see the money he may get and not the fact that it’s a good selling point?

He said once he would leave if we won something, but the lure of Europe and his brand all over Europe free advertising may be to much of a situation for Ashley to sell.

So maybe Neil or Ed can ask the question, would we really prefer to win the cup or get Ashley out?

Trust me I would love to win the Cup but to have Ashley for another god knows how many years, is it worth that.

Assissins. Don’t think the advertising is allowed n Europe. They have to cover it. I might be wrong. He said he would leave if we won a cup!!! Well I hope we can put that to the test. Wouldn’t that be great. Win a cup and he sells. We can but dream.

Plus we lost money the last time we were in the cup I think, we would have to buy more players to have a bigger squad and compete in the league.bhe doesn’t want that does he. That’s why he likes us to finish well down the league.

If Ashley had seen any potential for marketing SD via European competition he would have gone for it.

Like his position on the FA cup, he’s probably looked at the costs, risks and benefits, and decided Europe’s a no go.

He’s had near 13 years to consider it and encouraging Bruce to try for a trophy may be seen as an opportunity to promote the new brand – Frazer. Or, he’s tried to use the FA Cup as a selling point? But, no matter what commercial potential may be superficially available, selling the club depends on his demands such as merchandising, advertising etc.

Anyway, it’s academic, hypothetical – nobody seems to know how Ashley’s mind works.
