Alan Shearer has named both Jamaal Lascelles and Allan Saint-Maximin in his Team of the Week for last weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

Agree with his picks? pic.twitter.com/bav2Y1zRPl— Premier League (@premierleague) March 10, 2020
Both Jamaal and Allan were outstanding in our 1-0 win at Southampton on Saturday. The captain helped marshall a defense that kept a second clean sheet in a row in the Premier League.
Allan, of course, willed Newcastle to victory with his individual effort for the goal. Shearer hasn’t picked a Newcastle player in his team of the week since our 1-1 draw at Wolves in January when he selected both Martin Dubravka and Miguel Almiron.
There hasn’t been much to celebrate with our league performances of late. But hopefully, we’ve turned a corner with the new formation and can continue to pick up some wins in our final nine games.

Comment #2When you see how bad Southampton’s central defenders were on Saturday, Villa’s last night, West Ham’s and Norwich’s all season it makes you realise that we are in a relative healthy position regarding that position.
Fernandez, for example, is solid, has experience and does not panic under pressure.
We do need Rose to step up to near the level he has been in the past for Spuds. Unlike other loanees we’ve had, we KNOW that he is very capable at this level – he just hasn’t got back there yet. Whereas with others, such a Kenedy or even Willems, we had no idea of what level they could be before he started to play games for us..much bigger gamble.

Comment #3Still can’t believe that Lascelles gets grief from some parts of our fan base. He’s been the most solid, consistent defender we’ve had over the last four seasons, solid in defence, rarely injured and improving with the ball at his feet all the time.
He’s also the best club captain we’ve had since Shearer – yes, better than Nolan. Both had amazing leadership skills, but Jamaal shades it for me because he’s still only 26 and therefore only now coming into his prime.
We’re lucky to have this lad, Captain Fantastic.
Well done ASM too, but he gets enough praise as is!

Comment #5Ronaldo, I see what you mean about Joelinton moving out to create the space that Miggy ran into, but I can’t believe that was intentional. He ran across and dragged a central defender into the channel that ASM was bursting into, it was ASM on a charge that fixed him there.
The best run he could have made from that position would have been to peel to his right right and run the left channel to give the central defender something else to worry about – ASM running at him, Miggy running behind him and Joelinton running down the wing.
He didn’t, he ambled back towards the centre and the defenders disregarded him. Thankfully, Miggy had made a fantastic early run and ASM spotted him and disregarded Joelinton too.
It’s not his fault, he just doesn’t have the instincts.
Hey Miggy You’re So Fine

Comment #6Re Joelinton (please please don’t call him Linton!) – I’m surprised that I haven’t seen a single mention anywhere of his contribution to the goal against Saints – he was on the touch line surrounded by 5 opponents but still was able to slip the ball to Longstaff to cross – and ASM did the rest.

Comment #8Miggy’s now scored 6 goals in the last 17 matches, by the way – counting since his maiden goal vs Palace. That’s one in three, not a bad return at all for a support striker / Attacking mid.
Long may it continue…..

Comment #9Yes Ron, but it’s all part of the same thing. All that’s different is that it’s been spliced and had other nasties inserted.
He also had the patent for SARS and other such viruses but hey, all a coincidence eh? Nothing to see here, move along now. Naive much?

Comment #17Believe what you want Ron, frankly, I could not possibly care less. I’ve put that out there and if people want to research it, good on them. I have no desire to argue with people who get their news from CNN or MSNBC, and defi itely not with someone who repeated their BS claim that Trump said it was a hoax, when all you needed to do was go and watch with your own eyes and listen with your own ears to what he actually said, instead of taking their word for it. It’s not hard. It’s actually quite simple. What he said was “The Democrats using it as a political issue was a hoax”. Like the NYT saying it should be called the Trump virus etc. That is not helping ANYBODY.
Now they’re wetting themselves over the economy, actually hoping it tanks because they can use it against him. Its pathetic. So really, I ain’t surprised.
Do you believe Biden can beat him? 😀 He doesn’t know who he is, or where he is, he’s got dementia ffs. He shouldn’t be running, but crooked Democrats once again, cheat Bernie out of his shot at it.
See who steps in shall we? Hillary or Michelle? If it’s Biden it’s done already. Get ready for four more years because like it ie not, Biden will wet his pants on stage debating Trump. 😀
Are you aware the Biden’s are the subject of at least six investigations in Ukraine? Go watch Rudy’s blog to see all the documented evidence from Ukraine, Latvia and Greece re money laundering. Everything they accuse Trump of, they’re guilty of themselves. Same old playbook as Russia Russia Russia. A big nothing burger. 😀

Comment #21Flawed again Tsunki. You see, smart guys like me ( Hiya Jail ) didnt have huge expectations of Bruce.
So we didnt batter him.
But we gave him a chance because it was the “right” thing to do. We didnt attack and scream . We waited. And evaluated, and hoped. And he has accumulated points well, despite having a terrible striker. His football hasnt been good but we were used to that. It seems to be improving. In fact its quite ok right now.
He was slow to change shape, but maybe, who cud blame him after Leicester battered us. The cup run is against weaker teams but guess what – it doesnt matter. 🙂 Points like last year…FA Cup 6th round…and we did well v City already.
This really must be hurting you, eh?
Because guys like you , as shown up by guys like Bobby, me , Billson and others, seem to care more about politics than winning games.
Do you recall McKeag ? Ambitious? Yeah right!
I know you would have loved it, if you could bore us witless with misery if we were below Norwich now. But we’re not.
In fact, its quite embarrassing for you I would imagine.
Oh well.

This has the potential to go around in circles lol. For me it was an intentional run by joelinton. Lazaro came out after the game and said his runs allowed almiron and him to get in the box. Both scored that game.
If he remained central then that goal isn’t materialising. So he’s played a part. If he gets bodies around him then they’ll all get opportunities as he’s made similar runs before but either hasn’t been found with the ball or nobody has been close by to capitalise.
Hopefully the change of formation and attacking players moved higher up means there will be support for whoever plays front.

Comment #25Jib, he holds the patent for the vaccine as well, you know, the one that hasn’t been found yet! 😀
It’s all man made mate, it’s disgusting. Too many people with their heads in the sand. MSM is pure propaganda, not worth watching.
Remember how the usual Suspects got all upset when Rob mentioned the Royal family? Facts. Andrews best friend – Epstein. Charles’ best friend – Saville. Two industrial scale nonces and traffickers. But no, you can’t criticise paedophile’s with power – god forbid.
Again, nothing to see here, pure coincidences. Why anybody believes anything they say without researching it is beyond me. But they do and until they change you can’t help anybody.
Fortunately more and more people are waking up to the lies. Now more people get their news online, with less watching MSM – just the sheep left.
And on that, I’m going. I don’t want to discuss puoliticss on here and it’s heading that way and unavoidable right now. I’ll take the step back, as I probably started it trying to explain the virus sensibly.
Later.

Comment #29What’s flawed Munster is your ability to use facts when you “argue” but that’s dignifying your approach. Bruce isn’t “doing well” at all he’s doing exactly as many of us predicted, muddling around mid table, eventually coming to grips with his squad and team shape. A great helping of fortune and many free tickets have helped too. And while we are on, how does anyone “scream” on a blog? You are an indicator of the age we living be in where flat earth and fake news rules.
