The Premier League Announces Suspension Of Season

The Premier League has announced that all matches have been suspended until the first week of April. The Northern Echo’s Scott Wilson has tweeted the following information.

Lee Ryder with the Chronicle has also confirmed that the FA Cup has been postponed as well.

This decision was expected with the news that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Hopefully, the virus can be brought under control in the next few weeks and the season will continue in April.

It’s all elite football – which includes all FA-supervised leagues, including womens’ football.

    @danielmaier
They can postpone all football for as long as they like – when it resumes Andy Carroll will still be ‘a couple of weeks away’. #NUFC

This won’t be ending in April, in two weeks we’ll be likely hitting peak infection, in three weeks we’ll likely still be at that point. In four weeks we may be seeing infection rates dropping, but don’t count on it.

I would suggest this above is an optimistic evaluation. We may not see peak infection rates until May.

Did Rafa kick this off in China to stop Liverpool winning the title without him?

    😉

What’s the FA rule on if the FA Cup games can’t be completed? Some are saying the most goals so far out of the remaining teams will win it and that’s us due to having to play 2 replays?

More likely to be cancelled i would think – Ironic eh?

According to my work Slack football channel, when they had to abandon the League season in Chile they did away with relegation but continued with automatic promotion based on the position of the clubs at the point of suspension, which would see the Premier League increased by two clubs next season but the other leagues stay at the same numbers.

That would be a fair outcome in my eyes, doing away with the need for playoffs, Liverpool win the League and the CL places are as they are now.

But currently 5th place gets CL footy with city banned. Man U are 5th but Sheff Utd have a game in hand and if they win that they would overtake Utd. So even that isnt straight forward right now as that wouldnt be fair for Sheff Utd until everyone had played the same number of games..

Maybe a lot of bambinos in 9 months time or houses getting a complete makeover! Not in this house though as I’ve been firing blanks for 20 years and I can’t possibly leave the house to stock up on paint!

Anything that delays the bin-dippers winning the Premier League is alright by me!

This won’t be going away in a few weeks, it’s gonna be months until it’s over it’s not gonna be over until most people get it and build an immunity towards it. There won’t be an antiviral medication available for this until early 2021 AT BEST. So it’s gonna have to go away naturally.

It MIGHT be settled down by the end of the summer at which point the new season will start up so they won’t be able to play the last of the old matches.

If I had to guess it will drag on until there is no time left to play the matches and they will have to award final positions on the currant positions as they stand.

Oh my god, we’re all dooooomed I tell ye.
Rob, ffs, do you know why this had happened? Because Trump went against the Democrats and called a travel ban. The reason its not as bad in. America is because against the Democrats wishes he cancelled travel to China as soon as the virus was reported.
THIS is why MSM is unreliable because people believe everything they hear. They have an agenda.
I’ll drop you an email and explain because I can’t be arsed going over it on here and having all the snowflakes echoing MSM talking points.

The FA cup should be able to be played or finished off even into the new season as there are only a handful of games left. It would be crap starting it back up again then as the momentum would be gone out of it for some teams like us.

Can’t see them under any scenario awarding the cup to the team with the most goals. That would be awful. There would be no good in that even if it was awarded to us.

They’ll end up just cancelling it all and there’ll no no f.a. cup winners and unlikely any promotion /. relegation – no idea how they’ll choose champions league / europa teams for next season – at a guess they’ll just choose whoever is in those positions now

Poor SkySports – couldn’t happen to a nicer company
