Newcastle Take Common Sense Action On Coronavirus Pandemic

The Chronicle today are reporting that Newcastle United have taken some common-sense action on the coronavirus pandemic.

With the outbreak in the UK not likely to peak for weeks or even months (in the worst case), the club have postponed the initial return date back to the Benton Training grounds.

It’s been 10 days since the training ground closed down until the end of this month – March 30th – which was the provisional date to return.

But that will not happen, and our players will need to continue with their individual training programs as recommended by respected club doctor – Paul Catterson

The return date has been pushed back into April, but we would be extremely surprised if training resumes even in late April.

Newcastle United chief medic – Dr. Paul Catterson

The club have already taken proactive action in getting their players to self-isolate with specific training programs, and the club have had some players return from loan spells to do just that.

Data is being fed back to the management so they can check on the fitness of the players.

The initial PL plan was to start games in early May with our next game being at home to Spurs on May 2nd.

Yes – that’s what I thought – an almost guaranteed 3 points for us.

But that’s just not going to happen, and if this uncertainly and perceivable lack of progress against the disease goes on for another four weeks, there’s just no way the season can be completed.

And that would be similar to what has already taken place in Italy and Spain; and some states in the US

It will depend on how fast the virus spreads, with efforts to restrict the spread of it being desperately taken by governments around the world.

We are effectively in lockdown mode here in Raleigh, North Carolina, and people around the world cannot do much more than being vigilant, wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitizers where possible.

This action today is simply a common-sense move by Newcastle.

And presumably, our players can remain fit throughout this period so that when football does eventually start up again – whenever that is, and probably for next season – only a short preseason will be necessary.

MORRISONS and Asda have slashed up to 12p off the price of fuel because of coronavirus in an unprecedented boost for drivers.

Both supermarkets have knocked 12p-a-litre off unleaded and 8p-a-litre off diesel, in what’s believed to be the largest ever single price cut of this size.

Jeez, bus is racing along today…

They should MOT the owners rather than the cars, we’d get a lot less idiots on the road – the amount of carnage I see in my rear view mirror is unbelievable !

It’s $26 at the moment Dave, lowest since 2001 apparently. Not sure what happened back then, I wasn’t offshore, I was living the life of Reilly in Australia.

Can’t imagine that many footballers staying fit – think most of them will be thinking the season is over already ( which it probably is)

it’s getting very close to the actual production cost figure, next step is cut production,
but Saudi and Russia are at war over production figure, going to be a case of who blinks first ,

Scrap international friendlies and the league cup next season and we could fit a delayed season in to next year.
