Things are very much in lockdown a the moment, but we’ll try to keep you abreast of the news coming through on Newcastle – which is not much.
But Newcastle fans – especially when we are in lockdown – need something to read about Newcastle.
Personally, I think the season is over becasue the coronavirus will not clear up quickly enough to finish the season – so that one aspect is good news for Newcastle.
We will still be a Premier League club next season.
And we have no idea at the moment what will happen in the summer during the transfer window.
And whether the coronavirus will impact the transfer window, which will again run until the end of August.
Face mask needed to combat coronavirus
The Premier League clubs voted in 2018 to end the transfer window on the Thursday before the Premier League
But the European clubs did not follow suit, so we’ve reverted back to the old way, but FIFA specifies the window has to be open for 12 weeks.
The window will open and run from June through the end of August – so that’s about a couple of months before we can see some real action in the transfer market.
Players cannot be officially signed until July 1st when the financial year starts.
But if and when it becomes apparent the Premier League cannot be completed for this season, then clubs will turn their attention to transfers and start preparing to strengthen their squads.
That’s what Newcastle need to do, and we are probably three or four top players (mostly goalscorers) from having a team that can survive in the Premier League without having to fight against relegation every season.
If we can do that, it will be a step up.
