Before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the Premier League for the foreseeable future, it was expected that Steve Bruce would be handed a transfer budget in the range of £60-80m.
A loss of revenue is now unavoidable even if this season can be completed. However, The Athletic are reporting that Steve Bruce will still get a significant amount of funds for this summer’s transfer business.
Bruce, Lee Charnley, and head of scouting Steve Nickson are planning to have a transfer meeting in the coming weeks. We would expect that to be via telephone or video conference with the current lockdown in place.
Newcastle have already completed the bulk of their scouting and will dwindle down their extensive list of targets. The report claims Bruce covets a midfielder, striker, and a wide forward to add to the squad.
Charnley will also look at the players out of contract this summer, as well as our four loan players. Currently, there’s Matty Longstaff, Javier Manquillo, Rob Elliot, and Andy Carroll, with just a few months remaining.
There’s also Jetro Willems, Valentino Lazaro, and Nabil Bentaleb with purchase options on their loan deals. Danny Rose is only on a straight loan but is reportedly a target for a permanent transfer.
So Newcastle still have a lot of work to do with the playing personnel. Now is a good time to make a lot of these decisions with this season frozen in place at the moment.
Which On Loan Left Back Should Newcastle Pursue This Summer?
- Jetro Willems (52%, 600 )
- Both (28%, 318 )
- Neither (12%, 137 )
- Danny Rose (8%, 95 )

And some clubs have opened up their parking spaces for NHS employees.
Given its proximity to the RVI, I’m sure SJP could be useful to staff.
But whether the concept of good will’s in Ashley’s psyche is a question to be considered. The flak he’s been getting should’ve set his PR into action but seemingly not but…..
