Touch And Go Whether Bruce Signs This Midfielder In Summer

The three loan players brought in during the January transfer window have not really had the chance to prove themselves.

They are Valentino Lazaro – Inter, Nabil Bantaleb – Schalke 04, and Danny Rose – Tottenham.

They are all talented players, but whether any of them will be signed permanently in the summer is unknown.

All three of them came on loan becasue they were not getting games at their clubs.

One player Bruce wanted in January was Lille’s 21-year-old box-to-box midfielder Boubakary Soumare, and a deal of £35M for the player was agreed between the clubs.

But then the youngster refused the move to Tyneside, and we think Steve Bruce will try again this summer to sign the budding young French star to Newcastle.

In January, 25-year-old Nabil Bantaleb of Schalke 04 (shown above) was brought in on loan since Bruce wanted to strengthen his central midfield.

It looks like he could be brought in permanently – but only if Bruce fails to sign Soumare,

Steve Bruce is an admirer of Bentaleb, so even though he didn’t particularly shine for Newcastle this year – he may take up the £10M option to buy in Bentaleb’s loan contract with Newcastle.

Another option is to bring Bentaleb in on loan again for the season – with the same option to buy.

That would be because of the likely shortened season in the Premier League.

But the Newcastle manager’s number one midfield target could be Boubakary Soumare, and we are likely to face some stiff competition for Lille’s outstanding French U21 playmaker.

What do you think?

Was the Feyenoord match the one where we scraped through to the next phase of the competition with the lowest points total ever?

I seem to think we scored in the last minute and if we hadn’t, Feyenoord would have gone through in our place.

I dont think he will take a chance on any of them, so in that sense I dont think it will be touch and go. I think he will loan all them back again until they are given a proper chance to get fit and get used to the team. 3 loan extensions if u ask me.

IrishRob, I think it all depends on how much (if any) of the current season we get played. If the rest of the season is completed behind closed doors, they all have a chance of earning a longer deal. If not, then have any of them done anything to justify a longer deal at this point?

I feel for Bentaleb particularly who seems to have had terrible luck in his career so far and seems like a genuinely likeable and talented player. We haven’t seen the best of him yet.

Sean and Matty both apparently in the process of changing agents with the hope that they can sort their futures out.
