Of the four players on loan at Newcastle currently, there are two of them that we really hope Newcastle can sign permanently or even find a way to extend their loans for next season.
Those two players are Jetro Willems and Valentino Lazaro. Both of them have purchase options, but with Jetro being out until at least September and Lazaro having only made five appearances, too much is unknown at the moment for definitive decisions on those clauses.
Some broader discussions will have to take place about the remainder of this season as well. With it not expected to resume anytime soon, there will have to be a decision made on what to do with players currently on loan or whose contracts end on June 30th.
As it stands, the Premier League is currently scheduled to start up again on April 30th. However, it is expected that date will be pushed out in the summer months after the league’s next meeting this Friday.
It is almost a certainty that if this season can be completed, it will extend beyond the June 30th date when most loans and expiring contracts will end. This is one of the scenarios that will be discussed during the Premier League meeting.
There is a report in Inside Futbol that cites a report from Italy that Newcastle has not yet taken the necessary steps to trigger Valentino Lazaro’s purchase option. They claim that it is now a ‘distant prospect’ that the Austrian will become a permanent member of Newcastle’s squad after his loan expires.
However, we are not concerned with this report at the moment. With so much in limbo about this season as well as next season, Newcastle will not have made any concrete decisions on their loanees just yet.
The report does say that Inter Milan are hoping to sell Lazaro to use the funds in the next transfer window. So it is likely that if Newcastle do decide to keep Lazaro, there shouldn’t be too much of an issue as long as they can reach an agreement with Valentino himself.
