A few weeks ago it was reported that Marseille were trying to offload both Morgan Sanson and ex-Magpie Florian Thauvin this summer for reduced fees to get them off the books.
The French club are reportedly in some financial difficulty after not qualifying for European competition this season after finishing 5th in the last campaign.
Newcastle were linked with the 25-year-old Sanson this past summer. There were even reports at the time that we were offered the midfielder. However, his fee back then was over £30m.
The report from last month claimed that Marseille had dropped their asking price for Sanson to around £23m.
The Chronicle have a report citing French outlet L’Equipe that Newcastle are one of four Premier League clubs now interested in Sanson.
The others being Aston Villa, Everton, and West Ham, who are reported to have had a bid of £33m rejected for the player this past January.
The most recent report from L’Equipe claims that Newcastle have recently enquired about Sanson. With his valuation having significantly been lowered, he could be an astute summer signing.
The former French U21 international joined Marseille in January of 2017 for around £8m from Montpellier. His contract still has another two years to run. This season he’s made 30 appearances with 5 goals and 5 assists.
