Martin Dubravka has been speaking a lot of late while he’s been recovering from his knee injury in isolation with his girlfriend, Lucia. We get the sense that Martin may be getting a bit antsy, as many people are, being cooped up inside their dwellings.
Dubravka has once again given an extensive interview with the Chronicle this morning. He’s sent the following message to Newcastle fans:
“My message to them we are missing football and missing our fans.
“We’re missing everything about the game. I miss the atmosphere at St James’ Park, especially as it’s something special for me.
“At the same time, I have to say please stay at home and stay safe.
“This is a difficult time for all the people around the world.
“At the same time, football is not the most important thing, it is health, and we need to stay responsible.”
Whenever football returns, there’s talk it could be soon as June, Martin will continue his stretch of Premier League starts. His streak is currently at 79 matches.
Martin revealed last week that he was close to 90% recovered from the knee injury he suffered against Southampton on March 7th. The way events have unfolded, he’s likely not to miss any matches from this injury.
While Dubravka understands the need to shelter in place during this pandemic, he admits it’s been a struggle to do so while coping with an injury. Martin had the following to say about how he’s faring with Lucia in isolation:
“It is difficult for her as I am very active.
“If I am not able to be active, I get nervous.
“It has to be tough for her, but she is amazing, and she is helping me with my injuries, which she has done from the first week.
“That is important for me. We are trying to stay positive and strong.
“I am glad we are together. If I was alone, I would go mental, probably.”

I read that article, took out a quarter of the worlds population at the time, let’s hope there’s no repeat!
Had to laugh at one of the the don’ts though.
No spitting on pavements, or football pitches (I added the last bit 🙂 )
