On Saturday, news emerged that Newcastle were planning to launch a bid for former Rafa Benitez target Rafa Silva.
The claim was that Newcastle were hoping to take advantage of the economic havoc wrought by the coronavirus and bid £15m for the Benfica winger this summer.
However, the defending Portuguese Champions value the 26-year-old at closer to the £25m mark. They also have him wrapped until 2024 after he penned a new 5-year-contract this past summer.
Sport Witness have cited some Portuguese outlets claiming that Benfica have no intention of letting Silva leave on the cheap this summer.
Silva apparently has a release clause of €80m (£70m) in his contract. However, one of the outlets cited in this report says that Benfica could be willing to let the Portuguese international leave for a bid close to their £25m valuation.
Newcastle were linked with the winger last May when his agent Antonio Araujo claimed that Newcastle were tracking Silva. However, Araujo made it clear that his client preferred signing a new deal with Benfica, which he ended up doing in June.
So whether Silva would want to leave so soon after signing his new contract is up for debate. The initial report from Saturday claims that he would be open to the move.
However, the report in Sport Witness cites Portuguese outlet Record saying Silva is happy to finish his career with the Lisbon based club. While other Portuguese sources claim that a move to the Premier League could be ‘an attractive destination’ for him.

Comment #1The Wife, I hear the southern states and NC has had some serious weather over last 24 hours or so, I do hope it’s all fine where you all are both weather wise and health wise.
Hope carltoon is fine, hopefully she’s just taking it easy and avoiding the stress and agro on here.
On Rafa Silva seems like a canny player in a very average league so depends on how much he’s rated and valued by nufc as to whether we go in for him this summer

Comment #8Personally I dont think it would be bad at all, but if people are starting to say worst thing that could happen to Newcastle and its the end of it all, means this takeover is going to happen, so lets hope we can celebrate soon while others get upset worry and compalin

Comment #14If the Jib is Jane and vice versa theory has been officially debunked that makes all the ” Jib is a tranny” jokes redundant. Seems a shame but hey ho I’m sure we’ll find another angle to pull his leg.

I get you, that’s good, I think the journo was insinuating that we’re over as a club if PiF took over.

Comment #18Munster. What makes Miguel Delaney a “ good guy?” Is it because he must be an expert on Newcastle United given he knows how we should all react if the club is bought by the PIF?
I love they way these journalists take the moral high ground and become all idealistic when it suits them.

Yeah, think thats it. We know if they get us, only difference between us and Sheffield United who no one complained about is, we are likely to go places. Only people getting upset will be supporters of other clubs. Lets just hope this one happens
