Premier League clubs received a few pieces of good news recently. First off, they were given an advance of their merit payments based on league position. This would have generally come at the end of the season.
This is what was reported in The Times last Thursday:
“An agreement was made by the 20 clubs last week to release some of the funds that would normally be based on merit payments which vary according to the final league table positions.”
“It will see each club advanced a different sum ranging from several million pounds for those at the bottom to more than £20M for those at the top, sources have told The Times.”
“It will also include a chunk of the money expected to have been awarded as ‘facility fees.'”
Over the weekend, it was revealed that Sky would not demand a refund of their £371m broadcast payment if this season does end up being canceled.
However, the clubs still face massive revenue losses due to this pandemic. While Sky Sports won’t ask for a refund, the league could have to refund £340m to overseas broadcasters.
Then there’s the matter of gate receipts and other matchday revenue for the final quarter of this season.
The Mail have calculated the cost Premier League clubs are likely to face from matchday revenue even if this season does end up resuming.
The report figures that it will cost the 20 EPL clubs a combined £177m in season ticket refunds and lost matchday income even if the season gets completed.
The Premier League is reportedly hoping for a return in June. However, the plan is to play behind closed doors. There is little likelihood the matches will be played in front of fans.
With the season halted, most clubs have also suspended their season ticket renewal process. However, Newcastle are amongst the three who have not done so along with Everton and Norwich.
There have also been murmurings that matches could be played behind doors through to the end of the year affecting next season’s gate receipts as well.

Comment #3A re-post for what its worth
Maybe they have to do it in smaller if they can be called smaller amounts of £150000000 and not the whole £340/50 or whatever it is in one go

Comment #20I’ve got no idea, no contacts, nothing but I’d certainly say it looks done.
Now lets see what unfolds, surely St James Holdings or one of the sheikover team have to make an official announcement?

Comment #24Cant help being a bit jubilant at the latest news, I have stayed off this site as I haven’t been in the right frame of mind but have learned to skip certain posters comments. The ones I have read have been positive and funny and have kept me amused over the last few months. Take a bow Geordietom.
I am in total lockdown and rely on family member’s to help out with food etc, even though they are all key workers. For this I’m grateful. Times are not good and hope everybody survives this.
Just hoping for this takeover to happen then this site can go back to talking football again.

Comment #25Kieran Maguire suggests Ashley could be lending Staveley £150M to buy the club with the view of paying it back over time, probably with interest. Where are the PIF in all of this? I thought they had money to burn. What a load of bollocks
