It now seems almost certain the Amanda Staveley led acquisition of Newcastle United will be successful.
And Newcastle fans are even starting to think that could be true and relaxing just a little bit.
But we don’t trust Mike Ashley as far as we can throw him (and that’s no far), so we are all awaiting the official announcement of the acquisition of Newcastle before we celebrate.
It looks like Amanda Staveley will be installed as the CEO running the club on a day-to-day basis, and she will already have a plan of what they plan to do over the next three years and this coming season in particular.
She will also hire a Sporting Director and have to decide which manager she wants to manage the playing side of the club.
It’s likely that as soon as the takeover is announced, the non-playing staff will be rehired on full pay, and that’s only right, but it also sends a message of goodwill to the employees of the club and to the fans as well.
As far as transfers this summer (or whenever the next transfer window will be because of the coronavirus pandemic), there will be a rethink of which players to bring in.
There will be money available, but only top-class players will be brought in to improve the quality of the side.
This is not a good development for Andy Carroll, who was signed to a one year deal last summer but was hs been continually injured this year and made only 14 appearances with 4 starts for Newcastle.
He is on a basic wage plus add-ons for appearances and the like.
He had 3 assists but no goals this season.
It was always going to be a toss-up whether Andy would be given a chance for next season.
The takeover is another reason why he’s unlikely to be rehired.
The only way that can happen is if Steve Bruce is kept on as manager for next season, and can persuade Amanda Staveley with some sound reasoning as to why Andy needs to stay for next season.
But Andy could well have played his last game for Newcastle – if this season cannot be completed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
He has made 103 appearances with 33 goals for the club.
The Gateshead lad could come back as a coach at Newcastle one day – and his experience in the Premier League will be a massive advantage if the 31-year-old decides to do that.
In our poll, taken before the takeover was announced to be very close, only 29% thought he should be retained.
Should Newcastle Retain Andy Carroll For Next Season?
- No (71%, 1,973 )
- Yes (29%, 816 )
Total Voters: 2,789
The poll on Andy is now closed, but even more fans today will think he will not be rehired for next season if the takeover is successful.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #8Carroll should be one of the first players out the door!! This is not even debatable. He is a sick note and we will be going after real world class players if/when we get new ambitious owners. Carroll as a coach on the other hand, not bad.

I think @MsiDouglas summed it up well earlier. The onus is now on the buyers to close the deal. Agreement in place. PL checks underway. But the key words from day one remain – “patience” and “caution”. This is the closest we’ve EVER been… But until it’s “done” etc etc.

i think people are more aware of Pochettino and the style he plays, they have heard of Allegri but doubt they have seen too many games he has managed in. Plus Poch would be more attacking which for me is always a bonus for Newcastle.

Comment #18M Douglas has said nothing in that statement, more like rinse and repeat codswallop. Yes we all know that the onus is on the buyer, and YES we are trying to be patient, and we know the deal is,nt done YET.

Its actually quite funny to see that their true feeling towards their religion are just as relaxed as the western religions in reality, they just hide behind this strict devotion in public. the more the generations move on as well it will become more liberal too id wager, should help with the country as a whole opening up in the next 20-30 years.

Comment #24Well, I’ve gone from being ‘all in’ last night to being very twitchy today after catching up with the overnight/early morning negativity following Samuel’s piece.
An update on the ‘next manager odds.’ Neil reported last night that Rafa was 3/1 with Allegri at 6’s.
This morning Rafa is odds on at 4/6, Allegri 5/2, Poch 10’s and any price the rest.
However only Paddy P are running a book and they do like a publicity market.

Norman Hunter was as hard as they come if not harder than that!
Newcastle United has always been tops for me but for a while I lived in Keighley in my younger days and often went to Elland Road when Newcastle weren’t playing in the area (Yorshire Lancs etc) I was fortunate enough to see the great John Charles play – He was magnificent – never booked once – ever! Les Ferdinand comes close in some ways but WOW John Charles was the tops!

Comment #28Morning all, wow that was a gargantuan effort tor read everything from 11pm up to date.
My sixpence worth, ignore Martin Samuels, I struggled to believe that any paper (even the fail) would print 2 articles on the same day completely contradicting each other!! At least 1 if not both have to fabrications ( a nice word for lies).
I’m still on the positive bus at the moment because I don’t believe MA can afford to not sell this time, having got as far as PL (confirmed by Sky Sports) the hit he would take if he pulled out at this late stage would be considerable, and with all his retail empire shut for the foreseeable future he has no income stream.
I’m hoping for an announcement Today or a Monday, but if we have to wait 2 weeks so be it, although I’ll have no fingers left (nails already gone).
Chins up, we’re nearly there.

Comment #30Think we can all agree that carroll will be gone and rightly so, I’ll cut him some slack though as he did directly assist 2 goals which led to 6 points rather than 2 points.
That 4 point swing is huge for us, I didnt want him back to start with but made sense on the deal he got from us, we’ll make more than we lose out on with his very small contribution!! He wont be needed for next season though

Comment #34Loved AC when he was here and really hoped he’d be a success on his travels, very disappointed that a lot of fans believed the club mantra that he wanted to go for greed and turned on him, but for some reason some of the fans have tended to believe whatever rubbish Llambias or Churnley told them, Rafa being the latest example. But there is no way we should have resigned him and for me it showed Bruce up as being a patsy, he needed to get off to the best possible start and having a striker who was unfit anyway with his history shouldn’t have even been considered. The resigning of AC was imo, everything that has been wrong with Ashley’s shambolic reign.

Id rather we took a gamble on a younger CF than Kane, we couldnt afford what he will go for anyway right now with FFP and the 4 or 5 other positions we could upgrade with that same money
Kane 150-180m
OR
Aarons
soumare
cyprien
Upamecano
Pietro Pellegri for CF too – this guy will be a star in a year or 2, joint youngest player ever in serie A i think, at Monaco now, 6 ft 4 CF, bit like Christian Vieri in style who was a fav of mine back in the day.

Comment #37There is a suggestion, that they could call the league over for this year and award all places based on existing points per game achieved. We’d stay where we are but Bournemouth would lose out on goal difference as Villa and Watford would scrape through. If they did this, I would imagine Eddy Howe would be available, any interest?

Comment #38Craig hope has said on Twitter that the bullet point in the daily mail article stating a price has not been agreed was incorrect and not put in by Martin Samuel, and it was an error by someone else who misinterpreted it. He insists a price has been agreed and the bullet point has since been removed. Looks like the whole article is just Samuel trying to gain an ounce of relevancy by questioning the deal which he knows will get a lot of Newcastle fans attention, and the daily fail believe the price has been agreed and they are no longer disputing that.
