Newcastle are reportedly tracking a couple of 21-year-olds from Ipswich Town. In addition to scouting the pair, new U23 manager Chris Hogg is familiar with them from his time at the club. He left Ipswich’s youth set-up to join Newcastle earlier this year.
In a report in the Chronicle, the pair are cited along with Scottish youngster Aaron Hickey as possible targets who could still be pursued under new ownership to help increase the young talent at the club.
The Chronicle also contends that the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic will be especially hard on the lower divisions in England so the talent could be brought in for real bargains.
Flynn Downes– promising midfielder on Newcastle radar
Flynn Downes is an Ipswich Academy product who has already made 74 appearances at Portman Road even though he just turned 21 this past Janaury.
The midfielder is being tracked by Arsenal and West Ham and is currently rated at around £7m, though that could drop significantly due to the coronavirus’s impact on EFL club finances.
The England U20 international is a well-rounded midfielder who looks an up-and-coming prospect. Last December, he became the youngest player in the club’s history to captain the side.
Luke Woolfenden– young center-back Newcastle are scouting
Luke Woolfenden is another Tractor Boy Newcastle have scouted that could still be a future prospect for the club. Woolfenden, like Downes, is an Ipswich Academy product and just 21-years-old.
He broke into the first-team this season after spending last season on loan at Swindon Town and one before at Bromley. He’s made 36 appearances in all competitions, all of which have been starts.
The 6’4″ center-back is valued at around £3m, and like Downes seems to have a promising future. The Mail wrote an extensive article on his potential this past January.
Downes and Woolfenden are tied to Ipswich until 2022, but the club holds an option on both players to extend their contracts to 2023.

Yeah wasn’t sure about the game to be honest, doesn’t seem to be any fixture lists but we do seem to have been listed for that game today from what I found.
So whoever we might have been playing it’d now be 1 hour 30 Minutes to KO (assuming a 3pm KO)

We should be looking everywhere for players, the good ones dont all come from the big teams academies.
Kante, Vardy, Alli, Maddison, gomez at Lpool, even Bale was playing in the champ or div 1 when he made his debut for Soton. There are countless others.

Funny you should mention Kippers, I was googling them and there seems to be a shortage of Craster ones as Robson and Sons are closed due to covid.
If you can recommend a supplier I’ll give them a go;.

Comment #36We will need some resilience over the coming months to deal with the backlash of jealousy and resentment from rival fans and biased media with their own allegiances.
We will get the Human Rights record of SA rammed down our throats at every opportunity and IMHO must accept that although they are trying to modernise and evolve there are a lot of wounds to heal.
To emerge from what was a country that operated behind closed doors out of the public eye and scrutiny, surely it has to be positive that they are now looking to be involved in International Sport where they will be scrutinised, criticised, discussed, etc to the nth degree especially if they achieve some sporting success. To me that signifies that they are ready to embrace the attention and are open to change. They can’t be condemned forever if there is willingness to alter their outlook.
We have been in the headlines during Ashley’s tenure for so many negative reasons we can’t allow this new chapter to become a negative and this must be seen as a fresh start for us as a club and a fresh start for the Saudis in becoming a modern tolerant Sporting Nation.
