Signing This World-Class Striker Will Immediately Improve Newcastle

Edinson Cavani becomes a free agent this summer after spending seven years at PSG in France.

While he is getting on in years,  he turned 33 in February, he can do a job for Newcastle in the next two years as the club tries to qualify for European competition with the new owners in place.

There have been several news stories that Amanda Staveley is in negotiations with the 116 times capped Uruguayan International (50 goals) about him joining the new Newcastle United.

While he still won’t come cheap becasue of his high wages and signing on fee, he should be worth it to give us a bump in class and experience.

And there are other clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United interested in signing the striker.

But it will be a signal to other world-class players that Newcastle United are serious about becoming one of the best teams in Europe.

When you think of what was missing in the side this season, it was a goalscorer.

And we often have said if we had a decent goalscorer we would now have a lot more points than we have – 35 points from 29 games but only 29 goals scored.

The defense in place is very good although some defenders will need to move on this summer.

Edinson Cavani – would be a terrific acquisition for Newcastle

While we have been inept in front of goal, we have been creating chances under Steve Bruce’s new attacking formation.

So if there was one player to bring in, it would be a renowned world-class striker.

It would be better if it was a 25-year-old – yes – but maybe we will also bring in a younger striker this summer.

While the deal has not been struck for the Uruguayan, Cavani would be an excellent signing for Newcastle.

That’s because of his fame and talent, and he would draw fans to watch Newcastle in our away games.

He’s scored 200 goals in 300 total appearances for PSG, although the French League is nothing like the Premier League.

In European competition, he’s scored 30 goals in 54 appearances for PSG.

What do you think?

If Spurs have sacked Poch, how can they demand compo if he signs elsewhere, surely it would be more beneficial to just let him go rather than the compo scuppering a job for him and them continuing to pay his wages.

    cleversley (from earlier)
someone mentioned that changing the date on the accounts reporting was a common delaying tactic to allow later publishing of accounts
doubt you should attach any importance to that story

I think Cavani has enough money salted away to join his boyhood club on minimal wages, it’s not like he’s be coming here at one last swansong in the CL, we’d have to pay him at least 150K a week and I think we could or should be aiming for a more sensible approach.

Cavani yes, Pochetino yes…these two alone will make difference. But we need also two classy CM, AM or RW and RB…we need atleast 5 new players which will jump into starting 11 immediately…

If you read the Companies House link I posted a few threads back
you’d see that Mash H have moved their accountancy date every Spring
(sometimes a few times) for years.
In short no significance at all.
However the first full day of Ramadan would be a good time to make an announcement

Jail, honestly, I think he’s selling because the time is right to do so and there is a willing buyer in place.

This whole saga has been going on for literally years – Staveley never went away, as hibbit has pointed out and as became obvious in January.

As far as Ashley is concerned, he’s not getting anything from us any longer. If he was indeed using us as an advertising hoarding, what’s the point when there’s no football and his shops are closed?

I think the virus has had an effect on the sale, but not because he needs the money, just because owning NUFC was anyway no fun any longer and now there’s no business purpose to owning us either.

I’d love to see Rafa back properly funded and given the remit to provide attacking entertaining football. I’m sure he’s capable with his vast experience and knowledge of the game.

If he doesn’t come back then one of the other managers we’ve had who were woefully underfunded should surely be given a chance.

Repost for those who are starting to feel this will not go through:

In times like these it is easier to be negative, if proven right you would have a small victory as you had repeatedly claimed it was destined to fail. In truth, you will still end up disappointing as a large part of you hopes to be proven wrong.

If optimistic and it fails you would have the heartache of another failed takeover.

Most of us are being realistic. We are looking at the nuances between this news and past ‘fakeovers’. It appears to be happening, we are getting excited but not one person here trusts Ashley, we are just hoping his ulterior motives (likely needing cash) are what is driving this sale.

“The Pessimist complains about the wind,
The Optimist expects it to change,
    The Realist adjusts the sails.”

Cavani on a free along with a younger striker e.g. Boadu, Maylen, Osimhen, Edouard etc would do nicely.

Has the big fat slug f@#ked off yet?

the max still for me thats if its not rafa, if the league rejects this it will open a massive can of worms for them, all the fans outbursts from other clubs wont help either because they have to come here when there teams in town and I wouldnt want to be in there shoes

150k a week for Cavani is a conservative estimate; I’d reckon Cavani would want three times that amount, and at 33 playing against PL defenders, you would question how long his commitment could hold.

Rush to get a new coach?

I would be amazed to see the rest of fixtures completed anyway.

Look around and pick the best coach/director of footy combo in the summer.
Get Shearer in as an ambassador.
