Edinson Cavani becomes a free agent this summer after spending seven years at PSG in France.
While he is getting on in years, he turned 33 in February, he can do a job for Newcastle in the next two years as the club tries to qualify for European competition with the new owners in place.
There have been several news stories that Amanda Staveley is in negotiations with the 116 times capped Uruguayan International (50 goals) about him joining the new Newcastle United.
While he still won’t come cheap becasue of his high wages and signing on fee, he should be worth it to give us a bump in class and experience.
And there are other clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United interested in signing the striker.
But it will be a signal to other world-class players that Newcastle United are serious about becoming one of the best teams in Europe.
When you think of what was missing in the side this season, it was a goalscorer.
And we often have said if we had a decent goalscorer we would now have a lot more points than we have – 35 points from 29 games but only 29 goals scored.
The defense in place is very good although some defenders will need to move on this summer.
Edinson Cavani – would be a terrific acquisition for Newcastle
While we have been inept in front of goal, we have been creating chances under Steve Bruce’s new attacking formation.
So if there was one player to bring in, it would be a renowned world-class striker.
It would be better if it was a 25-year-old – yes – but maybe we will also bring in a younger striker this summer.
While the deal has not been struck for the Uruguayan, Cavani would be an excellent signing for Newcastle.
That’s because of his fame and talent, and he would draw fans to watch Newcastle in our away games.
He’s scored 200 goals in 300 total appearances for PSG, although the French League is nothing like the Premier League.
In European competition, he’s scored 30 goals in 54 appearances for PSG.
