Over the past few days, it seems like a new world-class player is linked to Newcastle as each hour passes by.
This morning, the Chronicle are citing a report from Mundo Deportivo that has added former Liverpool midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, to Newcastle’s distinguished wishlist.
The Brazilian has failed to reach his Anfield heights after his big-money move to Barcelona in 2018.
He is currently on loan with another European giant in Bayern Munich, who are reportedly not going to trigger the €120m clause to make the deal permanent.
The 27-year-old has played well in Germany this season, scoring 9 goals and assisting on another 8 in his 32 appearances.
However, in these times, that type of money is a price many clubs are going to be unwilling to pay.
Coutinho is Premier League proven and would be a superb signing for Newcastle. Barcelona, though, could be unwilling to take too big of a hit on a player they signed for £105m plus add-ons less than two years ago.
If they are not willing to significantly drop his price tag, then it may not be a prudent decision to bring Coutinho back to the Premier League despite his world-class ability.

Comment #1Endlessly linked with world superstars…. still owned by Mike Ashley.
PLEASE – for the love of Alan Shearer can we just get this takeover sorted before we start playing Football Manager?

The media and the rest of us don’t know the next coach/manager is
but you can bet your bottom dollar the new owners and the man himself do.

Why not Coutinho? Imagine the Scousers when we rock up at Anfield with Rafa in the dugout and Coutinho scores the winner!

Comment #6Spaletti hasn’t done anything of great measure in years it was almost 15 years ago he had his big season with Roma. Considering a lot of people think Mourinho is over the hill youd need to go back to the Mourinho glory days to when this guy was relevant. It’s a long time ago.
I dont see it at all, I’d be very disappointed with this guy, and that forward seems championship level nowadays.
Cant see it happening at all and if it does I’d be concerned as it wouldnt be a great appointment imo.

Comment #8Jib, the funny thing is that normally if there was no interest from a manager in taking a job, he’d come out and deny any speculation quickly.
NONE of the candidates have done that so far. What a difference to the search for Rafa’s replacement when everyone was falling over themselves to get as far from any speculation as they possibly could as quickly as possible.
Agree that the preferred candidate will know very well who they are.

I’ve been waiting 59 years and the last 13 under Ash have made me feel like we don’t merit any better as our expectations have been lowered so much.
Why not go for it as you mean to go on. These guys have 260 B. Just say that slowly!! They want the best of everything and if we benefit as part of that plan sooner rather than later so be it.
Part of me would love to see KK have a final crack, after all Woy is 71 now. MBS said he wanted dreamers and KK was certainly that. He could keep the seat warm for Rafa or whoever.

Comment #10If even half of these reports are true then it must surely indicate our new manager is already lined up and sorted.
Maybe Allegri has actually had a deal in place since January. Wouldnt it be crazy exciting if we has managers and players ready to go for the opening of the transfer window.
I dont see too much on Soumaré atm I hope we still want him, hes special and the price is very fair. Hope there is still gonna be people remaining at the club who will recommend Soumaré.

No surprise considering your victims mentality and the fact you believe your own lies.

Comment #13Geordietom relax man I’m just yanking your chain. Although it did start out with you threatening me with physical violence, a bit daft as you have never met me or know anything about me or anything I have done.
Its all just a message to you about how stupid it is to get carried away with personal vendettas on a blog. So don’t shoot the messenger.
No, really – please don’t shoot the messenger.
Thanks

I dont believe any of these player links, how can we be lining players up when we dont even know who the owners are atm.
Yes i know Ashley is STILL owner until the takeover is official, but the players we are being linked with are not Ashley type signings.
IF there is some truth in the player links then the new coach must,nt have a say on which players are signed.
That being the case, we wont be bringing Rafa in, he will want total control

Absolutely agree Tsunki, an excellent message.
Kinda sad that Steve Bruce has faded out of existence completely already, not gonna lie. Surely he could have gone back in time and made sure his younger self never snogged those Sunderland fans.

Comment #18I dont know who Fekir is dont even know if hes any good, but I know Pool rejected his transfer at the last minute on medical grounds and I know his value has plummeted in the last 2 years from almost 70M to 28M.
These are not smart investments unless we get him very cheap for under 20M which isnt gonna happen. Hes also an AM which is a position we dont need anyone in.
I’d have my doubts whether its actually genuine reporting.

Comment #21I see in preparation for being warmly embraced by the enlightened and forward thinking modern lands and integrating themselves into developed society by means of good old fashioned sporting ambition coupled of course with lovely TV rights the Saudi regime have kindly stepped away from executing those who committed crimes as minors. A good thing as last year’s head count was starting to get noticeable. Also flogging might be getting a back seat soon-ish as well! It will mean that heinous blogger who wrote those pesky sentences about not nice stuff his leaders do will probably not get his deserved remains 50 lashes a day for 18 days or so. Probably just a couple of good baton beatings and ten years in pokey but it’s a new age after all, got to go with the times!

Comment #34Spaletti as manager would be a massive coup for us. Brilliant tactician and known for fluid style of football.
Naingollan & Soumare in the centre is mouth-watering.
but first the takeover needs to be annouced and some sources on twitter saying another 10 days for annoucement.

Milinkovic-Savic is a world beater, would be difficult to get.
but a CM of Soumare and Milinkovic-Savic would boss games in the PL. Cyprien would be the next choice down.
