There is an exclusive in The Mirror that names American businessman Henry Mauriss as the man behind the recently reported second bid for Newcastle United.
Last week, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards disclosed that there was a second serious bidder for Newcastle who has an agreement with Mike Ashley.
There may be news of 2nd bid for #nufc breaking later. Deal verbally agreed and so on. Which makes very little sense as contracts signed for l Saudi led one and it’s already gone to PL to be signed off. I’m very confused. I would ignore it when it does but will chase up 2mrw
— Luke Edwards (@LukeEdwardsTele) April 25, 2020
Sky Sports journalist Pete Graves also confirmed the report of a second bidder lurking in the background.
It looks like that could be Henry Mauriss, who the CEO and Chairman of ClearTV. However, he made his fortune in the credit card and finance industry.
He is also said to be offering £350m, which meets Mike Ashley’s initial asking price and is £50m more than the agreement reached with Staveley.
According to sources close to the Californian businessman, he sees Liverpool as the model he envisions for Newcastle. This is what a source said about Mauriss:
“He has studied the way his fellow countrymen Werner and Henry have successfully rejuvenated Liverpool and made them one of the world’s dominant forces.”
“There is the promise of significant investment not only in the squad but also the club’s academy. It’s a fantastic business plan.
“The investor has seen the way Liverpool’s owners have harnessed themselves with the local community and made it a team effort with everyone pulling in the same direction.
“Newcastle have a huge and loyal support. It’s a club with massive potential.”
So all could not be lost should the Saudi-backed takeover not get approved by the Premier League. However, like with the current takeover attempt, there could be issues with the one from Mauriss.
The deal is reportedly being brokered by Chris Ronnie, a British businessman who was convicted of three counts of fraud and two counts of furnishing false information 2014.
He is also a former business associate of Mike Ashley and introduced the current Newcastle owner to Mauriss.
Amanda Staveley also met with Mauriss before securing the backing of the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
By all accounts, the Saudi-backed consortium should be announced as Newcastle owners in the next few weeks barring any unprecedented actions by the Premier League.

Chris Ronnie and Mike Ashley, now there’s a cheesy chips combo.
Even by the Mirror’s low standard this is dross.
Instead, how about watching some football, here you are.

Just hope that JoeLinton can emulate some of these strikes, some for us some against but this is what the best strikers deliver

Comment #10If this is true it could be Ashley setting up a plan B in case the PCP deal is rejected + it sends a message to PCP that they aren’t the only party interested.
Hopefully this is just a sideshow and the current deal goes through.
That’s what we all want.

Comment #16The football hasn’t been great, in fact it’s been awful at times.
But…
Bruce was left without a goalscorer and Shelvey, who was the only one knocking them in early doors, promptly got injured along with ASM who since he has come back has shown what a difference he can make.
Given all of that, Bruce has done well to keep the morale high – despite some big defeats – and he has fully deserved the luck we’ve had.
I don’t agree with Lascelles that he’s done a ‘brilliant’ job…
But in no way shape or form has he done a bad one – 7 out of 10 for me.

“He’s got a good record”
He hasn’t at all, whatsoever.
Therefore our captains said appraisal loses all credibility.

Comment #26Can you blame other fans for them assuming nufc fans are idiot’s? Everyone has bought this boll-cks storyline of a takeover created by KBA, and the northern press along with sky sports Pete Graves who is as much a proven lier as Ashley. I havent seen 1 piece of concrete evidence that this is real not 1. NOTTING only hot air. I laugh when I read the news reports of us buying tom, dick and harry for 60 and 70 million. Today we here there is now a new buyer that can’t wait to buy the club give me a break. There has been red flags from day 1 yet knowone wanted to see them. It is ridiculous how stupid and gullible people can be.

Comment #28It’s real funny how people on here disregard any news they don’t like as bs but hang off every ‘positive’ report as fact. What I’d be most concerned about is, as Ashley stated, nobody will know about the sale of the club until its scrolling along on sky sports news as complete yet here we are for the umtienth time talking about a take over and playing fantasy football

Nah, man, rollercoasters are a few minutes of screaming exhilaration, which leaves you wanting more.
This takeover has just dragged at this point!
More like the Big Wheel at the North Shields Christmas Market. You think it’s going to be fun, then you realise you’re stuck on a slow moving journey to nowhere seeing the same things over and over again and you’re cold, wet and feeling slightly foolish.
I just want it done. Now!

Comment #32As much as I loved having Rafa as manager I would prefer a different approach after the takeover.
With Rafa I was always confident, even after the awful start last season, that he would keep us up. I always felt safe with Rafa in charge.
However, his track record is a defensive set up and that’s why he didn’t go down well at Real Madrid – a club with a history of attacking football.
I also think his more detached and authoritarian style of management doesn’t work as well now as it used to – look at how Klopp and Gaurdiola ,are far more ‘one of the lads’ but still get the respect and performances from the players.
Without Rafa taking over after the disastrous McClaren who knows where we might be now – Rafa will always be a legend at NUFC for putting us back on track and giving us the hope we didn’t have before he arrived.
I think we need a totally new approach to go with the new future.

Ile give this til Friday and if its not announced by then im done.
Yes, it does say it could take up to 4 weeks but it also says it could take as little as TWO.. We are almost at week 3 so that tells me this is,nt as straight forward as we first thought.
