We have let the poll run on asking fans which of four managers they would prefer under the new regime who will soon take over at Newcastle United.
The four managers we have in our shortlist (and poll) were Mauricio Pochettino, Rafa Benitez, Max Allegri. and Steve Bruce.
It seems the Amanda Staveley consortium are considering two additional managers: Dortmund’s Lucien Favre and just yesterday there was news that Flamengo manager Jorge Jesus was possibly also on the shortlist.
With over 18,000 fans having already voted, Mauricio Pochettino still leads the pack with 41% of the vote with Rafa Benitez in second place on 30%.

And we had a poll out on Eintracht Frankfurt defender/midfielder Jetro Willems, and whether Newcastle fans thought he should be signed by Steven Bruce this summer.
These are the results of that closed poll.
Should Newcastle Sign Jetro Willems In The Summer?
- Yes (87%, 1,438 )
- No (13%, 222 )
Total Voters: 1,660

The above poll was brought out on February 19th, well before the news broke in late March that the Amanda Staveley consortium was close to buying Newcastle.
Since there will be a definite improvement in the class of players Amanda will bring in this summer, we issued the poll again.

And while there’s a decrease of 11% in fans who now want Jetro signed, three in four fans still want the Dutch International brought back this summer, when we will have new ambitious owners.
What do you think?

Comment #3lochinvar re restarting this season – I’d love to see some kind of resumption to the season, but realistically one case among the hundreds of players, staff, caterers, officials, media, medics, groundskeepers etc etc etc required to make it happen and everyone could be at risk of infection, as will their families.
I think it’s done for, it’s just a matter of time before the FA / PL recognise it, sad though that makes me.

Comment #4I think you should be gratified by that poll Ed – you have something like 14,000 intelligent followers of the blog (at least) who don’t want Benitez back, as first choice anyway. I think that’s a great result.

Comment #5Oh, and Micky – I also scored 7/20. Rubbish! I hate quizzes that make the answers more guesswork than actual knowledge.

Comment #6I cant see the PL finishing this season, i think it will go the same way as the French and the Dutch. I think Liverpool should be awarded the title as their lead is undisputed, and relegation should be decided on a points per game percentage. The same way for promoted teams, two up, two down.

Comment #7At the end of the day,the only reason why they are still considering keeping the season going is Sky and its money.Maybe an idea would be to scrap this season and give Sky and BT a bigger package next season.More live games for each. This unfortunately will mean games 7 days a week and 3 or 4 games on a Saturday and a Sunday. Live games from 12 until 7.30.

Comment #8I used to hate that on pub quiz machines, you’d be doing well and then they’d ask how many steps on the empire state building is it a:….
I suppose google has eliminated that though.

Comment #12I have a lot of love for Rafa but the one thing that always niggled me was his insistence on playing weakened teams in the cups. Bruce has proven this season that it’s not Ashley’s policy and, while his tactics and substitutions have been atrocious at times, he has to take some credit for recognising the fans’ wish to compete in the cups

Comment #13Quite funny that Dr. Ed didn’t put Steve Bruce in the same sentence with the other managers. Subtle humour.

Comment #14duncandisorderly ” Bruce has proven this season that it’s not Ashley’s policy ”
no Bruce has only proven he wasn’t issued with those orders,
not that it was Ashley’s designated policy when Rafa was in charge,

Comment #15Hibbit, true enough, but why would Ashley make allowances for Bruce that he didn’t make for Rafa??
