The Daily Star is reporting that Manchester United are confident they will land Lyon striker and Newcastle target Moussa Dembele this summer.

According to the report, Dembele prefers a move to Old Trafford, and a deal worth £60m could be in the works. Chelsea are also credited with an interest in the 23-year-old.

That seems a very high fee in a post-coronavirus world but Manchester United have been tracking the Frenchman for over a year and appear to now be the frontrunners for his signature.

However, Foot Mercato is reporting that Newcastle are now interested in one of Dembele’s Lyon teammates in former Chelsea winger Bertrand Traore.

Traore left Stamford Bridge for Lyon almost three years ago in an £8.5m move. He made just 16 appearances for the Chelsea first team but did manage 4 goals. Goals is something that Traore has contributed everywhere that he’s played.

The right-winger was on loan at both Vitesse for a year and a half and then Ajax for a full season before Chelsea sold him. While playing in the Netherlands, Traore bagged 33 goals in his 90 appearances.

He’s continued his impressive goal tallies in Ligue 1 over the past three years. For Lyon, the 24-year-old has also scored 33 goals in 125 appearances while adding 17 assists.

According to Get French Football News, L’Equipe back the claims made by Foot Mercato that Newcastle are one of the clubs chasing the Burkina Faso international. However, they also add that Traore intends to leave the French club this summer, with his preferred destination being La Liga.

The French Government’s decision to ban sporting events until at least September has seen Lyon miss out on European competition for the first time since the 1990s. They finished in 7th place after Ligue 1 was canceled.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted recently that the club could find it challenging to hold onto their star players after missing out on European football for next season.

“I am going to do everything to keep the players, but players who are programmed to play in Europe could want to go elsewhere because we don’t have European football.”

Ligue 1 could be a prime spot for Newcastle to do business this summer. The clubs have had to forfeit a lot of revenue due to this season being canceled, and we could see a lot of stars leave this summer as clubs try to stay afloat financially.
