Yesterday there was a claim that Newcastle’s loan signing Valentino Lazaro had doubts about his future on Tyneside in the wake of the Saudi-backed takeover of the club.
But today the Sun is reporting that Newcastle are in talks with Inter Milan over making Lazaro’s move to Newcastle permanent.

When Lazaro joined Newcastle in January, his loan deal included a purchase clause believed to be around £20m. He snubbed a move to RB Leipzig to get the chance to play in the Premier League at Newcastle.
The 24-year-old was forced to leave Inter after just six months as he sought first-team football with EURO 2020 on the horizon. He made only three appearances in the league under Antonio Conte.
Lazaro’s limited time on Tyneside has produced mixed results. When pushed forward in his favored right-wing position, Valentino showed glimpses of his quality.
He managed just five appearances before the season was suspended in mid-March. With that, his future, along with the other January loan-signings Nabil Bentaleb and Danny Rose, were thrust into limbo.
According to the Sun, Newcastle’s talks with Inter are over the structure of the purchase option. They claim Inter are desperate to offload the Austrian to raise funds for this summer.
However, if this report is accurate, Newcastle may be pulling the trigger unnecessarily early. Lazaro has played just over 300 minutes in a black and white shirt.
With the Premier League destined to get back underway next month, why not wait until Lazaro gets more games under his belt? Though maybe this contact with Inter has something to do with extending Lazaro’s loan deal beyond June 30th, which will need to be negotiated.
We really rate Lazaro and think he’s embedded himself into the squad seamlessly. However, it would probably be wise to hold off on triggering his purchase option until after this season gets completed.
