    EGB,
It wasn’t your comment, it was a very unlikely coincidence that the date I’d changed Munters post from earlier today happened to be at the same time yours did back in August.

If/when Steve Bruce leaves I honestly think we should all stand up and salute him for his honest but limited efforts.
Of course he would come here to his home town club, even if we weren’t been taken over I would say the guy comes across as honest? and I’ve noticed very approachable, something that’s echoed by quire a few of the senior players…he is going to be replaced but I wish him well

    Jibbers,
Your posts of been even more unusually strange today, I think you need to go to bed and get over the fact your wife went back to her sisters (again) earlier today, sleep it off and apologise in the morning if she’ll speak to you.

    Princes Mate

While i think Bruce can leave with his head high, wasnt great but did the job, put us in a safe position (or should be), iv never liked this stuff about it being his hometown club and he is living the dream etc.

dont forget his quote from 2009:

“Managing Newcastle has never been my dream, this opportunity at Sunderland has everything I want – the infrastructure, the fanbase, an ambitious chairman and an ambitious new owner.

I don’t need anything else – I have everything here. Everything you look for as a manager is here at Sunderland.”

    The Prince’s Mate,
I don’t think Sheff Wed fans think he’s honest, I didn’t find him particularly honest either when he said we’re in the predicament we’re in due to two relegation’s. I’d kind of got used to being told we were a massive club with huge potential.

    magscar,
It’s all hearsay as we did get relegated but I honestly think Ashley would have found someone cheaper with a lot less demands if he’d kept us up.

    Before I go….

Bruce’s comments on arriving at Mackems – what would you say to the fans to get them on side in what was a very unwelcome appointment ?

“I’d rather be up the road but there’s no chance there so this will have to do and it’s beneath me as a Geordie but it’s a job”?

Not all managers (or players ) wear their hearts on their sleeves ala KK (in fact few do) and are very politically (with small p) aware – can’t always be too choosy as a journeyman.

One of their most succesful managers was ex Newcastle and not disrespected here – Bob Stokoe and funnily another Geordie Lawrie McMenemy did a not so great job as manager

Lot of players went both ways and many still liked

    Got myself on longer…

It’s all conjecture but I believe Ashley would have kept rafa if we had stayed up but on his terms.
Could maybe have been shorter contract than 3 years but i doubt it as Rafa likes security for his team and the clear but assessed gamble he had taken in coming hadn’t yet been soured by experience – too early

On Bruce’s affinity I’ve long thought that in a straight race between us and Man Utd as a job it would have been them not us never going to happen ( but then again i didn’t think either option would!!)

Bit like Bobby Charlton – he’s a Manc through and through roots aren’t important to all Geordies = just most 🙂

Of course he was trying to impress the unwashed, but as a fan there’s no way i could say that, theres also no need for him to say it either. Plenty of other things he could say to win favour with them without saying what he did.

I dont care that he managed them, a jobs a job at the end of the day, everyones got bills to pay. But choosing to day that is unnecessary for me.

In his eyes hes doing a great job

I would love it if he bought the mackems once hes sold us
    LOVE IT

Im sure he will get them up the league
    Might even make the prem
But they will exploited in ways they cant imagine
We were lucky that the council had a say in the ground
It took a global pandemic to shift the parasite

Once he buys them he will tear that club a new one
    Oh please let that happen
If your going to dream about being bought by the Saudis why not dream of the icing on the cake

Maybe so but he didnt have to celebrate them scoring a goal at SJP
Plenty of players have not celebrated scoring against their old clubs or teams they support
It gained him nothing to do so

    Munter,
It took 10K people walking away, the realisation he’d lost 38M on Joelinton and that he’d have to throw good money after bad at Brucie just to survive plus Covid-19, that’s why he’s sold up.

Tks Essex, the comments by guys on here don’t bother me.

Despite people twisting my words, and lying, over 3 years, the principles are the same.

Rafa was good but should never have been put above criticism
Bruce didn’t deserve the brutal attacks before he even had a chance to chip in.
It must irritate those massively pro Rafa, and viciously anti Bruce, that Bruce did as well, and better.

Quite funny to listen to the indignation 🙂

    This is fair, balanced, reasonable.

Look I only referred to the comment and basically having taken the job he has to make some comment to keep them on side so he did

Did he mean it did they believe him – who cares?

Players and managers aren’t as tribal as us fans and most can’t afford to be – it’s their livelihood.

It wasn’t a big deal to me when he went there and I didn’t want him here for better reasons than some political comment he made in a forlorn attempt to get them to accept a Geordie.

It’s all water under the bridge now (hopefully)

Oh and good of you to talk to us shills Toon 22 on our way out 😉

The takeover will be when it will be, worrying about it or willing it to
Happen will just drive you potty.

Go for walks, read a book, watch a boxset, paint a picture, do anything but drive yourself mad over the takeover.

Yep and really that’s sums up a lot of the differences of opinion on here 🙂

Don’t mind sharing them as its a Blog but prefer civility amid the cut and thrust of strong opinion

Btw read Shogun years ago like others and really enjoyed it, tried a few of his others but struggled . TV series was good in its time but possibly a little dated in production terms these days ?

Used to read all of James Mitchener back then as well as I enjoyed historical fiction. Still do but read Hilary Mantell Cromwell books or Conn Igguldens’s Wars of the Roses now. His Caesar and Genghis Khan series also good and easy reads. C JSansom Shardlake books also very good of you like English historical fiction
