Spanish outlet AS are reporting that Newcastle ‘have not thrown in the towel’ just yet in their pursuit of Uruguayan prodigy Facundo Pellistri.
According to the report, Manchester City are in talks to snap up the 18-year-old attacker currently playing under former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan at Penarol. The club plays in Uruguay’s top flight.
Pellistri has a release clause of around £9m, which Manchester City are trying to negotiate down. The report claims they are willing to offer around half that amount while including add-ons.
Facundo Pellistri– Newcastle trying to pip Manchester City to starlet
City are also working on a five-year deal with the youngster should their negotiations with Penarol prove successful.
However, once Newcastle’s takeover is approved, we’ll be backed by the considerable wealth of the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Our prospective new owners may be willing to offer more than City for the potential future star.
Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Wolves, Valencia, and Napoli are all said to tracking Pellistri, who is said would prefer a move to Spain.
Pellistri has 25 first-team appearances for Penarol and extended his contract in February to 2022. He would be a promising signing if Newcastle can somehow pull it off.
