New yesterday from French outlet RMC Sport that Lille’s Director of Football Luís Campos has requested that his contract with the French club be canceled.
There is speculation as to which club he will go to – with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham a likely destination.
The two of them worked together at Real Madrid, and there is mutual respect between the two of them.
Campos was born in Portugal and now lives in Monaco, so thee is obvious speculation he will return there: Campos served as Football Director at the club from 2013-2016 before joining Lille.
And this is a story that has interest at Newcastle because Amanda Staveley is looking for a Football Director at Newcastle, so we are mentioned in most of the stories.
But it looks like he will be coming to the Premier League, but will link up again with Jose Mourinho, now at Tottenham.
Luis Campos
We don’t think there’s much chance of getting the former manager and top scout to St. James’ Park.
There are going to be players, managers and we suppose Sporting Directors we are linked with this summer until Amanda Staveley appoints both a manager and a Sporting Director (Director of Football).
And of course, Newcastle will be linked with top players from now until kingdom come – assuming the takeover is successful.
In the RMC program “The After Foot” on Monday night here is an excerpt:
“Daniel Riolo is convinced that Luis Campos will return to Monaco, where he is based, rolling out the red carpet to him.”
“He will be able to control transfers, even more, crunch in the cake because in addition, we will give him all the powers.”
So Riolo thinks Campos will return to Monaco.
Not sure we have much of a chance of getting him to Newcastle.
I just finished this report and see there is news that Campos has turned down Newcastle – but I’ll still put this article out regardless.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Its quite encouraging to see that we are being linked with top quality scouts who can identify the best talent
Lille have had some great players over the years was this guy also responsible for Cabaye and Hazard? So he’s been about for a while and the current crop of Lille players show he still has an eye for talent!

Comment #4Rafa wouldn’t be my first choice but I would gladly welcome him back with open arms.
I loved Rafa like no other since the great Sir Bobby Robson. But since he left and you heard rumours of the players not liking his training methods and you hear the greats from Liverpool talking about Rafa and his methods.
For example Shelvey came out saying what a lot of former Liverpool players have said which is he doesn’t give praise. He will just tell you the things you can work on etc etc not a pat on the back saying well done.
I want what Liverpool have or City that togetherness they display. Look at Liverpool under Klopp. The players are always smiling and happy and you have an excellent manager who is so passionate and shows it.

Comment #9Mund fair comment but we have to get to the position Liverpool /Man City were in to attract that caliber of manager, we’re light years behind them at the moment,
i think Rafa gets us and see the potential in the club the fans and the city,he already knows whats written on the tin,
as for Shelvey i wouldn’t set to much store on what he says he’s twisted about every club and manager he’s ever played for ,
