Looks like I just caught the bus.

@Kevin Vegan: What I will say about Bruce, is whether we like him as a manager, a tactician or even what little we know about him as a person: he’s clearly a respected bloke by his players. He comes from a school of management where relationships take priority, and everything else is to be prioritised on an ad hoc basis. Tactics aren’t his thing, so he works on building relationships with players, his staff, and their family too by most accounts.

Problem is: relationships need to be really bloody strong for a group of players to be 3-0 down and decide to turn it around for their manager. Just to give an example, Caulkin has a fantastic article about our trip to Wembley and how, by the players admission, just couldn’t show up for him.

Hughton was the same: not a great tactician, but was able to maintain excellent relationships with just about anybody.

The bigger problem? The ‘Plan B’ is a change in the managers emotion, not in the game plan. We’ve seen way too much of that, and recruitment was only a tiny issue in the sea of horse Mike Ashley in our pool.

Note: trying to coin “Mike Ashley” as a synonym of sh!t. I think it’s quite catchy.

For example: “When Steve Bruce told the fans of Sheffield Wednesday that he wasn’t going to manage Newcastle, he was talking an absolute load of Mike Ashley.”

Him being Gullit, obviously. Not George Caulkin, though I bet they’d be a bit confused when a young Georgy boy rocks up in Gullit’s place.

Repost wouldn’t you just know bus moved as well

Just typed comment whilst fielding lots of whatapp call from family so took some time breaking off and back again and…..

yes got the too long comment go back and edit !!

It wasn’t that long and probably could have got within the limit fairly easily but Wor lass’s patience is wearing thin as I am using PC on TV and she wants to watch something not watch me edit.

If I knew what the word limit was I would happily fit in with it but having asked twice and not had a response I am done with trying.

I don’t post every 2 minutes in one liners or paragraphs or so and tend to post after catching up so will have to confine myself to odd comment

I’m sure it won’t both most in the slightest (probably applaud it) but the limit was brought in to stop whole articles being reproduced ( I read them) not posters own contributions and so will affect the minority.

Just typing this to see how far I can get as I binned the other one
    ?

Thump, I think you potentially underestimate the willingness of players to talk up their boss if they think it will further their career to be honest, but we are entering the realms of speculation whenever we start discussing “team spirit” or other less tangible aspects of the game. If we focus on performance, I think the picture is clearer. What I would say on that is that the team hasn’t looked like it is generally moving forward under Bruce, and that tells to me he probably needs to go. I lost what little faith I had in him when he was still saying he hadn’t assessed all the players available to him after 3 or 4 months in charge.

Bruce has had 2 windows, I dont want him to take us forward under new ownership and I didnt want him here under Ashley either.

However I acknowledge he’s done far better than I expected. I noticed needing 180 mins then extra time to beat oxford on last thread. Rafa got us knocked out to oxford when he was manager……toon time cracking post btw and completely agree with regards to some wanting to rewrite history

    Our Toon,
Rafa sent out a severely weakened championship team against Oxford, rightly or wrongly. That was Brucie’s full strength PL team and at home, there’s a very big difference.

You harangued me that night about accepting your apology, how many posts did you level at me that night saying the same thing. You asked Tsunki about hiring a hit man over and over again. You have a history of harangue-ment . Can I be blamed for thinking you harangued me about ladyboys as you and the Munter man joined forces

In what way is Bruce doing ok, football terrible, players out injured up again as it was pre Rafa, players only happy with him because they get an easy ride, & just because he was born here doesn’t make him one of us the list is endless of examples where he has shown he couldn’t give a toss about the toon, get rid asap along with chumley & let’s look forward HTFL.

Nice to see the fair and balanced debate happening with Jail tsunki and a small gang shouting out the odds about championship squads and berating people for asking questions about dull football even against poor teams, bonkers late subs and political fighting at every club. Balanced with the positives, which we were being inundated with, obviously. Jail, did arsenal or spurs try to get him? Nope. Will they? Nope.

    Our Toon,

I’m with you on the first paragraph, and I agree that Bruce has done better than expected. We aren’t relegated, so nobody much can argue with that. But he’s only done better than we expected him to do. Had it been a more respected manager in charge at the start of the season, I feel we would have expected more even with the same squad available.

Also, wasn’t that Rafa FA cup loss to Oxford when we were in the championship in 2016-17? The squad we had then was awful compared to what we have now, and I don’t doubt that Rafa sacrificed the FA cup to focus on promotion as any sensible manager would in that position. I’m not sure it’s particularly useful to draw comparisons with this year’s efforts against them.

And I agree that Toon Time was on point with that post. Summed up the current mood perfectly.

Jail you have a limited sense of fun if you are getting sensitive about a guy poking fun about ladyboys.

( unless of course you did take a walk on the wild side of curiosity, and hey ho, let’s face it, we’re all in favour of sexual freedom an aal that man like 🙂 )

Bit rich from you aswell, as you asked Jib if he touched up young men in his car.

    You really are a ticket.

    Jail,

When you start your next job…

Tell your new gaffer that his tools are crap and the new lads he’s taken on to work with you weren’t your choice and if the job goes tits up not to blame you.

I’m sure the gaffer and the lads will be impressed with your honesty.

    Not.

That’s exactly what you reckon Bruce should have done with a squad shorn of its two best strikers and new signings.

Give ya head a shake man.

So Jail, it seems that Geordietom offered an apology.

And you were big enough to accept it?

Think you have form here son.

Do yourself a favour, rotonda and myself have been arguing pretty strongly about Bruce, but we shook hands, so to speak, like men, and I respect him for that.

OLG and Anglo saxon went way overboard on the Irish baiting and no worries, they’re OK in my books.

Even the loon who went on about Cromwell killing Catholic kids, I’ll leave him off. He wouldn’t say it to my face, believe me, but if he apologised or whatever, I’d leave it go.

Geordietom said sorry, that should be plenty.

@Kevin: Oh absolutely agreed. My first post had a bit about recruitment before I got the “too long” message, so I had to trim it down and take out a bit of context. He’s going to find himself in a similar position to Hughes at City where he has all of the money in the world, and not a bloody clue how to use it.

Christ aye, I remember that. It was almost as good as McClaren finding out who could take corners (during an injury crisis, I believe).
