There was an article out in the Mirror yesterday by Simon Mullock that quoted 67-year-old former Newcastle manager Ossie Ardiles.
Ossie revealed that Mauricio Pochettino has talked to Newcastle and been offered a very good deal to be at the helm of the resurgent club, once the takeover finally gets approved by the Premier League.
And yes – that’s now supposed to be next week – as it’s been for at least the last three weeks.
While the gist of the article is accurate, it turned out nobody from the Mirror talked to Ossie at all, and they simply lifted quotes he had made to an Argentine newspaper.
This is the tweet from Ossie, shown above:
Never talked to the Daily Mirror. They are quoting me in an interview with an Argentina paper where I talked very generally about Mauricio prospects. I don’t know what he is going to do and if I know I won’t tell of course. https://t.co/e7kGw3B13o

So that’s not good journalism, but it seems that Ossie did say those words but not to the Mirror.
What lesson can we learn from this?
That we should all take stories with a pinch of salt – although watch out – because some of them could even be completely accurate.
That’s one of the problems.
This does not reflect well on the Mirror, but it does seem that Newcastle, according to Ardiles, have indeed made an excellent offer to Ossie’s Argentine compatriot.
So no change there.
Comments welcome.

Dorman Long.
It’s a pub quiz pub question, which came first.
Sydney Bridge was started first but Tyne Bridge was finished first.
So Tyne Bridge was an operating Bridge whilst Sydney Bridge was a building site.
I keep telling my Australian friends much to their annoyance.

Comment #15i would imagine that The Race Course would be a top site for any new stadium as they own the land already and has great access from all directions.

Comment #21The Mirror didn’t claim it had an interview with Ossie Ardiles, it merely quoted him and passed on the appropriate news. Little to complain about.

Comment #27They didnt say it was from another newspaper either , at the very least its naughty not referencing the source (its not like many of us could have found the article from an Argentinian paper anyway)

I have never liked our current stadium when it expanded in 99 due to its lack of uniformity, which tends to dissipate any atmosphere, although there hasn’t been much of that in the last 13 years.
But whatever happens it must stay in the city centre, be visible and be in walking distance of station, pubs and eateries. Gosforth Park is not a good option.
If we have to rebuild SJP we can always ground share with mackems for a season, and show them how to fill it.

Comment #30Sydney harbour bridge is spectacular with it’s harbour setting, but the Tyne bridge at night with the swing bridge, high level, millennium and Sage is right up there. Sat my finals in the Guildhall underneath Tyne Bridge at bottom of Dean Street.

I personally think gosforth park is a good idea. A club owned ground of 75 to 80,000 as easy for the city fans as it is for outlying fans like myself to access
