Alan Shearer was one of the greatest players ever to wear the Newcastle shirt.
And his overall career, and particularly the 10 years he played for his home town club, was phenomenal.
Alan played 405 games for Newcastle from 1996 through 2006, and scored 206 goals, beating Jackie Milburn’s previous goal tally by 6 goals.
He is also the Premier League’s leading scorer with a massive 260 goals, 52 goals more than second-placed Wayne Rooney, and 73 goals more than another former Newcastle number 9, Andy Cole, who’s in 3rd place.
So when the youngsters at Newcastle hear and read about what Alan says and writes – remember this Geordie was a fantastic striker, first and foremost, and a living legend on Tyneside.
OK, now that I’ve got that off my chest Alan has been talking to French TV channel Canal+ about Newcastle and 21-year-old French whizz-kid Mbappe (shown above):
“I would very much like Kylian Mbappe to come.”
“With his skill, the confidence he has in someone so young, and all the goals he scores, that would be a big plus for the Premier League.”
“I only see one club for him, it’s Newcastle of course.”
Mbappe moved permanently to PSG from Monaco in 2018 and he’s played 34 times for France with 13 goals – and is one of the best young forwards in the world.
Alan Shearer may get a position at the Amanda Staveley led Newcastle as an ambassador of the club.
It’s a no-brainer to use Alan and Kevin Keegan too, and get them employed in some way by Newcastle United.
Kevin was one of our terrific managers and people around the world still remember his all-out attacking Newcastle side of the 1990s – The Entertainers.
Both men should be linked in some way to the Newcastle club and that hopefully will happen once we get the OK from the Premier League on the proposed takeover.
Here’s a very good YouTube video on the news in this report and some other news on the Tyneside club.
