The Chronicle have cited some comments from Football Law’s Thomas Horton which indicates that the Saudi-backed consortium should pass the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ tests.
One of his key points is that the Saudi Public Investment Fund could have enough separation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to not affect the takeover.
This is what Horton writes in his piece, which can be found here.
“It is this author’s opinion that, unless it is demonstrated that the KSA PIF itself has facilitated or funded beoutQ, the degree of separation between the KSA’s system of government and the KSA PIF that is seemingly apparent – that the KSA PIF is a separate legal entity and is operated for the benefit of the KSA but not by the KSA per se – would be sufficient for the KSA PIF to avoid disqualification as a Director pursuant to the ODT.”
Yasir Al-Rumayyan– Saudi Public Investment Fund governor
Horton is pointing out that there should be enough separation between the Saudi PIF and the KSA for them to pass the fitness test, even if the KSA is found to have some ties to pirate broadcast network beoutQ.
So as long as there are no ties between beoutQ and anyone associated with PIF, then we should be ok on the piracy front.
Horton’s article is a very extensive one on the whole takeover process as well as the controversy surrounding broadcast piracy. It is definitely a good source of information on this issue.

Comment #2So why the hold up…….
EPL dont want to be seen to be endorsing those nasty Saudis
If you wait long enough they will go away – reminds me of the comedy sketch where the inhabitants turn off the light / tv and sit in the dark when they hear carol singers

Nope pretty sure they charge a subscription and I wouldn’t pay money just to be in a little club like that. I’m all for grass roots movements, not turning ideologies into a consumer product and extracting a fee.

Comment #10With the £17m deposit paid to TFCB if this all goes to crap, I can see a legal battle from the Saudis, Ruebens, Mandy and TFCB. Probably the least wealthy of the group could bankrupt the E.P.L and tie them up in court for years, collectively and individually. I can also possibly see action or concessions being made in respect to the delay. Actions, when it is finally passed as to how it took so long, are the board fit for purpose and are they accountable for their actions in a court of law? Concessions, due to the E.P.L vacillating in indecision for over twice the normal time and holding up preparation time, including transfers and contracts, and also staff who TFCB has laid off. What concessions could be expected, a relaxation of the FFP regs comes to mind and I am sure there will be many more.
JMH thoughts on another delay day….Getting more and more p!$$’d off with the whole issue.

I didn’t say you “put drivel on” and I didn’t say you had to shut up. I just said be careful because this kind of repetiitive use of language can have unexpected consequences.

Comment #17I think we are all adult enough to make our minds up on what we like or dislike
For instance if some one said “Corbyn should have been Prime Minister” a million times I would still not have believed them!
BTW I’m not a Tory supporter or a Labour party card holder!
In my mind I know the difference between what’s right and what’s not!

Some advice from an old wise head on this blog…
This blog definitely has its own character, in the same way that a pub full of regulars does.
Now…
You would hardly go into said pub and start telling the regulars to tone down their language, stop farting so loudly and try to be a bit quieter when you stick a tune on the jukebox.
If you had any sense you’d find a pub more in keeping with your expectations.
So basically…
If you don’t like the heat in this blog, don’t try and throw buckets of water at it.
Find another blog, before you get your fingers burnt further.

Here is what I said, copied and pasted word for word. Read it carefully:
“Geordietom,
“Not sure if you are aware of this, but as a word of warning: frequently repeated words and phrases can cause a sort of “brainwashing” effect. You have been posting that same thing repeatedly and personally I’d rather not get brainwashed over this sale, even though I’m quite sure it’s accidental.
“Here’s an interesting paper on the subject to consider:”
https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/releases/psp-925821.pdf
I was just trying to make him aware of how repetition plays tricks on us, as I was assuming he wasn’t already aware. I wasn’t trying to silence anyone or anything else. Just to make them aware. I really did try to make this as clear as possible.

Bants,
That’s the kind of explanation I was looking for. As I said, I never suspected geordietom of this, thought maybe they were more a victim of this kind of canpaign than a perpetrator. That one certainly makes a lot more sense now, but sadly for those of us who didn’t realise the intention, it just looked like more repeated DRIVEL …
this was aimed at me …

Comment #27You’re probably just trying to hard to engage Kevin and yes it’s probably a good thing to pick and choose your moments and subjects before you plough into them. I would say you’re getting a lot of stick that’s not really warranted though.
I did enjoy your comment on the blog infighting here and how you’ve never been somewhere so confrontational or words to that effect- but didn’t you say you got death threats on your last blog and had to leave? 😀
I don’t think it’s that bad here ha ha. Although to be fair I’m typing this in while hiding in the cupboard under the stairs. Might as well read the gas meter while I’m here I suppose. Ah! There’s that soda stream!

Quite a few people here have told me they appreciate my input and want me to carry on posting.
A few have thrown absurd accusations at me and now I have an angry mob at my heels that think I’m a troll from Chicago who’s come back from the dead.
Maybe I haven’t helped my cause, but I haven’t done anything the rest of you don’t do all the time. Every article I ever read here since way before I ever posted, I saw arguments. Some of the blog’s users are clearly just angry people. Some are not. I think it’s a bit oit of line to say I “don’t belong here” just because a few people have taken issue with me. I love the club, so I feel I belong here. Until the people who run the blog tell me otherwise, I will assume that I am not unwanted here.

I also then said the same to Bladey on another post. I have only noticed you two doing this so far. And Amerimag to a lesser extent with the “positivity bus” thing. I don’t suspect any of you of doing it deliberately. Out of interest though, why did you decide to post that all the time? Somebody else tried to explain earlier and I saw you tell them they were wrong, but you never said why you actually do it.

That comment you quoted from me, you deliberately cut it off before I went on to say that I now understand that it was not drivel at all but that you were making a point, and that I largely agree with that point. Why did you cut that bit off? You are just deliberately misrepresenting my point now. It’s a cheap tactic that mate. I’m trying to give you the benefit of the doubt and you’re now trying to tarnish me by misrepresenting my comments.
