Newcastle have been linked with a sensational move for PSG striker Edinson Cavani over the past couple of months. The 33-year-old is out of contract this summer and has some top clubs after him.
Inter Milan were recently reported to have made contact with Cavani; however, there’s news that they are unlikely to reach an agreement on personal terms.
He, of course, will have plenty of suitors this summer with PSG looking unlikely to offer the Uruguayan a contract.
Sport Witness have published some very interesting comments from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla about Newcastle’s interest in the Cavani.
This is what Pedulla told Sportitalia:
“Cavani? Newcastle, should the change of ownership take place, have an €11-12 million proposal ready.
“See if he wants to go to a club that doesn’t play the Champions League.”
According to Pedulla, Newcastle could be willing to offer Cavani a contract exceeding £10m. How he knows this is anyone’s guess.
Pedulla’s claim comes on the back of L’Equipe saying a few weeks ago that should the Newcastle takeover be approved, Cavani will be pursued by the new ownership group.
However, Pedulla does make a sound point about whether Cavani will come to a club that’s not playing in the Champions League. We have our doubts he will, but maybe money will talk.

Comment #3Waste of money. Doubt he’ll work hard for us if he comes here. He won’t be competing in Europe in his first season and will be 35 by the start of the following season, so what odds is it to him how the team does? Not worth bothering with at all.

Given we won’t be playing a second string championship team again and are unlikely to be playing ten men every week, I think he’ll revert to the 10-0-0 after our first scudding off Sheff Utd.

We all know absolute jack about the deal, until it’s done and if it’s done.
Waiting for a WHO report for the Premier League to make a decision is comical in itself, if believed.
Too many people trying to join up in invisible dots I think.

BBC first to properly highlight season ticket money being taken. Hopefully if more media pressure builds it will hurry the premier league up.

Comment #11I really can’t see all this speculation about signing ANYONE at the moment.
Seems to me it’s all journalists (many of them so-called) putting names out there
for us to comment about and give them “clicks”. Also, in the case of some of the
older players like Cavani, whose time is slowly running out due to age, it may well be
their agent mentioning us as a possible landing spot for their client.
And when it comes to the takeover, which I still think will happen, no one really knows
anything about that, no matter how well connected they may be.
When it comes to all this speculation about all things NUFC, I might have been born at night,
but it wasn’t last night. So I wait, in the hope that NUFC will soon be in the hands of
ownership who operate us as a PL team should be operated.

Basically , Qatar finds itself in a dead end and they have forwarded the WTO proceedings to PL . Saudis will claim TRIPS exceptions and won’t acknowledge the report . #nufc

Why would the WTO report have effect in this case. The Saudis and quataris are not trading in the case of the takeover.

Normally the first-level ruling would be out this year. We’re still waiting. Legally, an appeal is still possible. But the Appellate Body cannot function because it no longer has a quorum as the US is blocking (re-)appointing judges as terms expired.

So the Premier League will only get a definitive ruling if Saudi Arabia and Qatar both decide not to appeal.
If either appeals, it will be “into the void”. The Premier League would have a 1st level panel report that has not been adopted and has no legal status.

I seriously hope you’re right.
I’ve got a feeling that one or other of those endangered clubs will see these games as a massive lifeline they’ve been thrown, bearing in mind it was being said a short time ago that the season was going to end as it stands and those in the relegation places will go down.
They’re going to come out all guns blazing and going to cause a few upsets for the higher placed clubs.

I have to say, Brighton looked like a fairly good side all season to me. Very surprised they are where they are. I can’t remember seeing them lose by more than a goal or two all season. If they beat us and find another 3 points more than us in their last 8 they’ll catch us. It’s not unthinkable.
I’d be surprised if the 3 that got relegated weren’t already in the bottom 5 though.
Personally, I think we already have our bottom 3 in place and Norwich, Villa and Bournemouth will go down. There’s still a bit of a battle for 4th to 9th and I think Sheff Utd will drop a few places and Arsenal and Spurs will end up above them. Other than that, not expecting any big changes in the table. We’ll see though.
I’d be very surprised if we ended up getting relegated, but I also can’t think of many games where we’ve looked like comfortable winners all season. We should be in a good position to see it out though.

Comment #20Geez surely we aren’t too worried about relegation, obviously mathematically possible but look at the fixtures of everyone below us, after doing some predictions this is how us and those below us will fare:
Newcastle – 45 points (10pts)
Southampton – 43 points (9pts)\
West Ham – 38 points (11pts)
Brighton – 35 points (6pts)
Watford – 33 points (6pts)
Bournemouth – 33 points (6pts)
Aston Villa – 30 points (5pts)
Norwich – 27 points (6pts)

I agree , i think the current bottom 3 will probably go down, for us to replace one of those 3 would be some kind a run of freak results.
We have the points in the bag. I bet if were to ask either of their sets of fans who,s position they would choose between us and them , i know what the answer would be. We will be fine.

I was thinking something similar. I really think the current bottom 3 are gone.
Only thing I’d say is I think Brighton will stay above West Ham, can’t see the hammers picking up 11 points having only taken 8 since January. No point being too specific though I guess, and I agree we’ll probably finish safe by about 10 points, give or take a few.

Comment #29By the way, did anyone honestly think after 17 games when Watford were bottom on 9 points that they would ever have a chance of staying up? Now none of us seem to think they will go down.

Comment #32Watford could be in trouble depending on what Deeney has decided to do, I haven’t heard if he has decided to return to training or not yet? I beleive also that Delefeou is still injured and likely won’t be back for any of these games. This could leave them in a bit of trouble and might allow Bournemouth to scrape above them.

Comment #37I’m pretty certain the PL O&D test is not so invasive or forensic that it involves collaboration with or interrogation of NGO’s or Political machinations. If they are scrutinising the Saudi PIF they won’t be trying to link it with their countries human rights records because it simply will not be relevant to them to embroiled in that when such things are unresolved at governmental level. The only way a foreign link might be made is if the proposed owners and directors have any convictions for financial impropriety anywhere else. They will also only be concerned if said individuals are linked with another club in the league that might create a vested interest and unfair competition. They will be concerned if the purchase is a heavily leveraged one, which if we are talking about the moneybags Saudis just won’t be the case, surely?
That just leaves the bickering over piracy issues and TV rights. Seeing as the PL have a well established and pretty robustly connected anti piracy arm which would have had tabs on any supposed jiggery pokery long before this “takeover” was a thing, it can’t possibly be a new thing popping its head up now.
So the O&D test in this case should be as simple as one of these things can be. It shouldn’t be taking this long and I suspect frankly that the buyers would have pushed for a result or fail justification long before now because this looks like dithering beyond reason. Very odd.
