Report – Newcastle Chasing Another Teenage Prodigy

In May, a report surfaced claiming that Newcastle were tracking highly-rated FC Nordsjaelland youngster Mohammed Kudus. The 19-year-old attacker is destined to leave the Danish club this summer with many interested parties tracking the attacker.

Kudus is already a full Ghanaian international who has exploded onto the scene this past year with 9 goals in 19 appearances in the Danish Superliga.

According to the outlet TodoFichajes, Newcastle are after another young player of Ghanaian descent in Anderlecht winger Jeremy Doku. The 18-year-old has dual citizenship with Belgium and Ghana. He has so far represented Belgium up to the U21 level.

Doku, pictured above, broke into the Anderlecht first team last season, making 5 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League. This season he’s emerged as a regular making 21 appearances, 14 of which were starts, in the Belgian top flight.

The winger has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists this past season despite not turning 18 until May, which is well after the season was canceled due to the coronavirus.

According to the Ghana site Kickgh.com, Doku’s father claims he turned down a move to Liverpool to remain in Belgium.

The outlet also claims that the youngster is in discussions with the Ghana FA to switch his allegiance to the Ghana national team.

Doku has plenty of admirers in Liverpool, Dortmund, Marseille, and Galatasaray. He would be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle to foster into a potential superstar.

The fact that the club intends to extend Barlasa’s contract soundly debunks Jib’s view that things come to a halt when takeovers are in progress.

If they can commit money on contract renewals, Ashley can do something about compensating ST holders.

As I said earlier, he’s taking advantage of the situation – unless the consortium’s doesn’t agree to pay out.

Well, if the article about the Saudi,s resolving the piracy issue is to believed, i think we could be in for a long haul waiting for this takeover going through.
It wont be as simple as making a few phone calls, surely.

It might be possible that if st holders take a refund they would lose their loyalty points or maybe even lose they’re st status.

The second one seem infinitely more likely. Even if he’s not planning on robbing ST holders outright, there’s a high chance he will try to hold onto the money for as long as possible so he can make more interest on it. That money should have been refunded as soon as it became apparent that those fans would not be granted access to the games they have paid for.

If the idea of the premier is to attract money into the league which they have said forever, then this take over of Newcastle is not helping there cause, they are looking stupid and incompetent in the eyes of any new money wanting to purchase or invest in any club.
Way to go Premier, this is just a shit show for the world to see.

    Lesh,

Spot on. There is not- and never has been – any need to freeze accounts when a business is in the process of a takeover. Staff and suppliers have to be paid, and this means the current owners have to have access to the accounts. There is absolutely no reason to freeze accounts at the club. It hasn’t happened at any other club during a takeover at any point in the past. Clubs that fail to pay wages are often docked points and fined, and there is no way the PL will force clubs into a position where they are unable to meet financial obligations due to accounts being frozen.

Seems to me the very reason ” suspension” of a business can’t happen is because of the risk of appearing to be less than er… fluid? For example it would look jolly poor cocoa old chap for your rates payment for June to get knocked back wouldn’t it?

    From The Mag
‘Premier League clubs begin refund process – with one exception

Premier League clubs have begun opening up refunds for games cancelled during the pandemic – with Newcastle United the only club to remain silent on the issue.

Over the last month, clubs have started to get in touch with their supporters to offer refunds on single match tickets and partial refunds on season tickets for games that were cancelled or are due to be played behind closed doors…

Most clubs have begun to offer refunds for matchday tickets and pro-rata refunds to season ticket holders, or have detailed the mechanisms for fans to claim their money back.

Anger on Tyneside has been growing, however, at Newcastle United’s refusal to say anything about the issue…’

Typical of Ashley , what an ash hole

    Northumbrian,

I’m pretty sure that refusing a refund would violate statutory consumer rights. It’s useful to think of season tickets like any other commodity. Season tickets are sold under the proviso of granting access to a certain number of games, and if that product is not delivered as described and in a satisfactory manner, customers are legally entitled to refuse full payment or to claim a refund where full payment has been given and they can demonstrate that the “product” was not delivered as described. If you bought a crate of beers that had been advertised as a 20 pack and opened it up to find there were only 12 beers in the box, you would be entitled to request a refund. Similarly, if you have purchased a season ticket on the basis of gaining access to 19 premier league home fixtures and are later permitted to watch 14 of those games, you should also be entitled to a refund.

Now don’t all shout at once but as the club does not know if fans will be allowed in stadiums next season could they be waiting on government advice to know the size of repayments needed?.

Kevin I don’t know if you are aware but having rights doesn’t seem to be stopping quite.a few large companies with up front payments and having no contracted product to supply from finding ways to stall or deny refunds. Airlines, holiday companies, hotel chains…. I don’t see why Ashley would actively dismiss the opportunity to hang on to the pot of disposable cash for as long as possible while he works out a way to profitably ” compensate” or ” supply in kind” to his customers. This is what I suspect is happening not some farcical halting of accounts fabrication dear oh dear that was lame.

Northumbrian good theory. Of course that still involves holding onto the up front cash for as long as possible, and not just refunding then reactivating the payments and charging the ST cards up when things eventually resume, which I can’t see happening ” normally” until.next season anyway can you?

Recently – just far too many post to go through.
Understandable that when the initial rumours started – lots of unknown punters appeared to register their viewpoint – very understandable.
But thereafter the blog has hit a new low for repetitive inane drivel. I would imagine the types of conversations you could hear in an old folks home – I have witnessed the other side.

Tom Cruise seems to be ousting Jib as the prominent poster – currently.
Blog will probably improve when the games start.

With the numbers using the blog – the Harrisons must be happy – but they too have sold out their standards for short term gain.

Maybe they are thinking of including fa and league cup games as an extra package well that’s if we last 9 games in those cups but we’ll not know till the outcome has been resolved. Leicester have been asking fans to donate the money to their foundation. Maybe Ashley see’s the st money as his leaving present as he already has a carriage clock lol.

    Jib,

I ran a few searches but couldn’t find anything to suggest this has ever happened during any previous takeovers. I also had a quick skim over the FAPL documents on takeovers and saw nothing written about accounts being frozen.

So can you indicate when this has happened previously? Or can you give a reason why this would happen? I would assume that this would be put in writing somewhere if it were a requirement. It doesn’t appear that there is anything written anywhere to indicate that this is what happens, nor any evidence that it has happened at any time during any other takeover.

    There are loads of reasons
A simple one that springs to mind.
Since 2017 the signatories and users of an account need
to verify their tax residency and until such information is
received the Tax authorities can order things put on hold.

“You must offer a full refund if an item is faulty, not as described or doesn’t do what it’s supposed to.”

    https://www.gov.uk/accepting-returns-and-giving-refunds

I woukd say that those season tickets fall under the category of “not as described”. Customers would have been sold those season tickets on the basis of gaining access to all 19 home premier league games (see this press release from the club: https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/season-tickets-on-general-sale/ ) so if the club fails to deliver that access as described, they are failing to meet their contractual obligations to their customers.

“It will take as long as it takes”- So fed up of hearing that crap. What if it takes weeks, months maybe a year!? What are we supposed to do just let our rudderless team drift away. Players need contracts sorting out, we need to shift out desdwood and buy quality players soon. Very soon we will have Ol’Brucey back trying to secure our premier league status. What of results go against us and we find ourselves in a precarious position? What if the FA drag their heels even more until this Piracy issue is resolved to solve all their problems? What if by then the top managers we were linked with like Poch, top directors and players have been snapped up by another team? This is dragging on for too long and it is only make NUFC weaker.

We need this sorted asap as it is hurting the club and us fans deserve better.

Will we ever see the end of this crap!?

    Jib,

So let me get this right, you think that the club’s accounts have been frozen, which would mean that staff and suppliers would not be getting paid, but not a single one of those individuals has decided to leak this information to the press?

If this was happening it would affect too many other businesses, and one of them would have let the cat out the bag by now, as none of them will want to sit around and wait for months on end without payment. Remember that the documents were supposed to have been submitted to the PL back in March, so that would mean staff and suppliers would have been waiting for 10 weeks for payment.

Statutory employment law states that businesses have 28 days to make repayment of outstanding invoices from the date they are received, so the club would already be well overdue and would be left wide open to legal action, as well as having recovery charges and interest (at 8% above the Bank of Englans’s base rate for business to business transactions) thrown in on top of their outstanding debts.

The PL will not force clubs into a position where staff and suppliers are not being paid, and unpaid staff and suppliers will speak out.

Sorry to say it, but I think you’re looking to make excuses for the club here for behaviour that is outright inexcusable. Refusing these refunds is basically theft. Every other club has communicated with its fans, while ours are left in the dark. It is a disgrace.
