Simon Jones with the Mail is reporting that Newcastle have made an inquiry about Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis.
The 20-year-old budding star broke into Benfica’s first team late last season, where he ended up making 14 appearances. He was in and out of the side during this campaign, only mustering 15 appearances in all competitions.
However, his potential is limitless, which has seen some top clubs linked with him like Manchester City, Manchester United, AC Milan, and Bayer Leverkusen, who are known unearth some young gems.
Florentino (shown above) is a Benfica Academy product and has been at the club since he was 10-years-old. He’s a defensive midfielder who has been compared to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
The youngster has dual Portuguese and Angolan citizenship but was born in Lisbon and is a current Portugal U21 international.
The report in the Mail claims that Milan are trying to negotiate a loan with an option to buy at £35m. However, the Mail’s Craig wrote a report on him last year stating he had a £90m release clause.
Florentino is an outstanding prospect. Newcastle would really have to go all out to bring to Tyneside.
He’s likely only a realistic target under the Saudi-backed consortium who will hopefully be announced as our new owners sometime this week.
Sempre Milan have done analysis on Florentino’s style of play which is worth reading for those interested.
