Today is the day that we hope to hear some legitimate information on Newcastle’s takeover. It is the scheduled date that the World Trade Organization’s report on the Saudi regime’s link to broadcast piracy should be finalized.
While that report may not be released today, hopefully, there’ll be some indication of what it contains.
The Chronicle is reporting that the WTO will rule on whether the Saudi’s have been derelict in ‘providing protection of intellectual property rights held by or applied for entities based in Qatar.’
This ruling will be on what role the Saudi government played in pirate broadcasters beoutQ’s hijacking of beIN Sports’ broadcasts. The Saudi regime has denied any link, but they are also accused of not doing enough to prevent broadcast piracy.
While the report may be completed today it will still have to be translated into French, English, and Spanish before being released. It also must be distributed to its 164 members.
We don’t know exactly how long this will take but considering how everything involved in this takeover has moved at a snail’s pace – we won’t hold our breath waiting for its release.
The Chronicle got the following answer from a WTO spokesman when they asked about the report’s release:
“We cannot currently confirm a date for the circulation of the report to which you refer.
“Dispute settlement proceedings are confidential to the parties, and the outcomes of dispute settlement cases are only made available when reports, duly translated, have been circulated to the WTO membership.”
The hope is the Premier League is just waiting for this report to be published to include in their approval process. The ruling isn’t a legal one, so we are not sure it will be enough to block the takeover.
It seems that the league is waiting for its publication before completing their owners’ and directors’ tests.

Comment #1FFS now on the date it was meant to be published we now have to wait even more for it’s release until it is translated! Why on earth didn’t say that at the beginning instead of saying June 16 it will be out in public. So sick of fking waiting.

Comment #2Luke Edwards first to jump on the WTO negativity bandwagon!!
Buckle up boys gonna be a bumpy ride today.
Premier league have had the report for weeks though so if they were blocking the takeover it would have been stopped already.
They have been working with the Saudis for a solution that benefits everyone.
Also PIF are NOT the Saudi government, separate legal entity.
Also Saudi can appeal this report which renders it essentially useless in the PL approval process.
Don’t let the negativity in today, we WILL have new owners very soon.
HOWAY THE LADS!!

I can’t see the WTO issuung its final report in English to be translated by the recipients. There’s too high a risk of mistranslation where consistency of message is so important to ensure the report’s consistency.

Comment #9Lesh they’ve got 164 members to send the report findings out to and the UK is a member so can’t see them not sending it in English to countries that have it as their 1st language.

Where a member country’s official language is English, of course they’ll receive it Englisb. Many WTO members’ official language isn’t and they’ll be issued a copy of the report in their language – at the same time as the English speaking members.

Comment #14This is akin to the point in the wedding ceremony where the congregation is asked if there is sny reason why the couple cant be joined etc etc etc. The trouble is how long do they wait ? EPL are hanging it out waiting for the chance to say no.
Somebody is pulling their strings and no doubt its to do with money

Look no further than the Chronic for the basis for this thread.
It’s also reporting Luke Edward’s saying the report strongly criticises Saudi over piracy.
Hey ho, hopes dashed for yet another day.

if it strongly criticeses the saudis then they best sort things out for the rest of the world who doesnt pay any money to the PL at all to broadcast via smart boxes, ect ect because its rife world wide and even amazon makes dongles so it can put on apps to watch the matches, so is american tv channels showing live tv matches ect ect ect, then we have all the boxes made in china I may add so if its just saudi then id be very annoyed there being singled out here, this is just going beyond instane to the nut house here

Comment #26WTO Review board was set up in August 2019. WTO rules state findings should normally be given within 6 months. If longer than 6 months then board should annnounce when results are expected to be published. WTO official site states report should be issued in 1st half year of 2020. For me this means they have to publish by June 30th at latest

I dont really take much notice of good old luke edwards though, WTO may have some say on the matter but there not an authority and if they had some why didnt they show that in two french courts over piracy, keeping information hidden is a crime is it not 🙂

“On 5 August 2019, the Chair of the panel informed the DSB that the panel expected to issue its final report to the parties in the first quarter of 2020. In its communication, the Chair also informed the DSB that the report would be available to the public once it was circulated to the Members in all three official languages, and that the date of circulation depends on completion of translation.”
This explains to me that the findings have been known for some time e.g. since end of March !!! as no other notification was filed concerning a delay. I guess the last 2 months have not only been the translation but also discussing findings direct with saudi

Comment #31The closer its getting the more and more I am getting a feeling its not gonna be passed and I have zero reasons why I think that, but I’ve just got a bad feeling they already failed it and cant anounce it until the WTO report is made public because that might be what they are basing the failure of the test on.
I honestly almost dont want to know at this stage.
