Don’t Dismiss Henry Mauriss Bid – He May Yet Be Newcastle’s Saviour

It’s strange that some fans are reacting negatively to Henry Mautiss’ bid he put in yesterday – said to be £350M to buy Newcastle.

We had always thought the Saudi-backed bid was for £300M since that was widely reported, but that may not be the case, and there’s some news that the bid is more likely to be around £340M.

And it could well be that’s what Maurisss is also bidding for Newcastle.

The £300M was set in place back in late March when the news broke about the Amanda Stavely consortium trying to buy Newcastle, and it’s been long and torturous since then – but what’s new?

That’s about 12 weeks of utter torture for Newcastle fans, but all’s well that ends well.

Or so they say.

Here’s some information on the fee today for Newcastle that from Luke Edwards at the Telegraph.

And we’re not going to criticize in any way the Henry Mauriss bid, because he has said he wants to do what the Fenway Sports Group did for Liverpool after they bought them for £300M back in October 2011.

That cannot be bad, and his ambitions for Newcastle are very much in line with those of the Amanda Staveley Group.

What we don’t know is how much he will invest in Newcastle over the next three years.

We know that figure is £300M with the Saudi-backed consortium and that information will have to be presented to the Premier League as part of the owners’ and directors’ test.

Here’s another of Luke Edward’s tweets, which we agree with.

In fact, Newcastle looks to be in a reasonably safe position for a takeover.

If Amanda’s bid fails (we don’t think it will), then Henry Mauriss will immediately spring into action and hopefully can get the papers to the Premier League quickly.

In his case, it really is expected for the owners’ and director’s test to take only 3 weeks.

The deposit is 5% not £5m so it’s £17.5 million. I think that probably kills that little wheeze as there’s no way he’ll pay that if it’s non refundable!
