BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League action. He originally predicted a 2-0 win for Newcastle over Sheffield United before the coronavirus postponed the match for over three months.
But times have changed, and Lawro is going with a 1-1 draw. Here is his prediction in full.
Newcastle’s takeover saga rumbles on and on and on. I feel a bit sorry for their manager Steve Bruce, who has done a really good job – every time he loses he is out of a job, apparently, and it is the same with stories about him being replaced by whoever buys the club.
Sheffield United did not really look like scoring for long periods against Aston Villa, and, sadly for them, everyone who mattered missed it when they did get the ball into the net.
I don’t see many goals being scored in this set of fixtures anyway, but especially not at St James’ Park.
Well, you can’t really mention Newcastle without the ongoing takeover saga as Lawrenson does to start his prediction. We just hope this ordeal is over soon, and the Premier League has the visceral fortitude to approve it.
We don’t begrudge Lawrenson for altering his initial prediction of a win over the Blades. There’s just no telling how the Magpies are going to react.
Sheffield also have a distinct advantage having played already on Wednesday in their 0-0 draw at Aston Villa, our next opponent.
It’s nice to hear from Lawrenson again, and we must remember that he’s on quite the streak in predicting Newcastle outcomes.
He’s predicted the last five correctly, so we’ll see if he can keep his streak alive, but we definitely preferred his original prediction to this one.
