Steve Bruce confirmed yesterday that the six players out of contract on June 30th this year have all agreed to stay on with Newcastel for the final nine games of the Premier League season.
The three loan players we brought in last January, Inter Milan’s Valentino Lazaro, Schalke 04’s Nabil Bentaleb, and Tottenham’s Danny Rose have come back to renew their loan spells until the end of the season.
That’s a relief.
The other three players are Andy Carroll, Javier Manquillo, and of course, 20-year-old Matty Longstaff.
There was news yesterday that Newcastle want to keep former Spanish U21 International right-back and Sunderland loanee Manquillo at the club, and have offered him a long term contract.
And Matty Longstaff (shown above), according to Steve Bruce yesterday, has been offered a fantastic new contract by the club, thought to be around £20K/week.
If you believe the news of the last few weeks Italian club Udinese have offered him £30k/week to leave his home town club this summer and try his luck at Udine, in north-east Italy.
Andy Carroll will be hoping to stay clear of injuries in the final 9 games and contribute to the side, although we think he will get another season at his home town club under the new owners.
And it looks like Manquillo could get some games at right-back, where he has looked an improved player this season.
We’re not sure which of the loan players will be wanted permanently if we do get new owners in, but the bar will have been raised significantly for everybody at Newcastle.
But first things first we suppose, and we start tomorrow, at home to Sheffield United, to try to complete the Premier League season.
And we also have that quarter-final of the FA Cup against a good-looking Manchester City side.
Howay The Bonnie Lads!!
