Hayden, Joelinton, And Ritchie Get Starts Against Sheffield United

Here is the team Steve Bruce has selected for this afternoon’s match against Sheffield United at an empty St James Park. It features just one change from our last game, a win against Southampton, those many months ago.

Steve Bruce has kept the side that won against Southampton intact. The only change is Joelinton in for the hobbled Dwight Gayle, who has recovered enough for a place on the expanded bench. Matt Ritchie has overcome his knock and gets a start on the right-wing.

Here is the team that Sheffield manager Chris Wilder has picked.

The results so far in the Premier League’s return have been mixed from a Newcastle perspective. We’ve dropped one place due to Southampton picking up a massive win for them over Norwich.

However, other than Brighton winning, the damage hasn’t been too severe. No matter what the outcome today, we’ll maintain our 8 point cushion over the bottom three.

Sheffield were a bit unlucky on Wednesday, only managing a 0-0 draw at Aston Villa. But the surprise team of the season have proven they are Premier League quality and will be a tough opponent today.

Hopefully, Bruce’s team selection works out well, and we can get a result against the Blades. Three points would be absolutely brilliant and put is in an excellent position for a run up the table.

Howay The Lads!

Id like to see Joe up front with another st. He’s not a goalscorer, never will be, but he’s a unit who can hold the ball up and pass a ball just like to see him get a chance with a partner, 23 first season in prem. Playing as lone striker at (I.m.o) big club, with about 30% avg possession per game. Its hard for him, not gonna write him off just yet but that miss today was defo another step toward it can’t give him many more chances.

Swap Richie for Rose, bring on Lazaro on the right.

Shelvey’s been poor this season and Hayden adds almost nothing. Look forward to the Longstaffs coming back.

The kick off summed it up- lump it straight to the opposition and give them the ball. Brilliant start that- great plan Brucie!

I can’t believe we paid £40 million for this tube. We’ll be lucky to get £4 million back for him at this rate.

Can tell its our first game back, alot of players off the pace.
Surprisingly decent in spells though, makes a change from being pegged back for the full 45 mins.
Rose looks rotten, maxi looks unfit, miggy looks like usual, would like to see him with more confidence taking players on though, prove he’s got the quality we all think.
Joelinton is just a riviere imitation.
Best get a fresh can for 2nd half ko.

    All our STs are utter shite;

    Joelinton- not a goalscorer.
Muto- not good enough. Overlooked by every manager.
    Gayle- not Premier League standard
Carroll- sick note and ALWAYS injured.

Am going to try some healing powers on the resident sick notes on the bench. If it REALLY works should see big Andy runninging on the pitch looking like Usain Bolt

Great convincing win there. Pleased for Joelinton after his earlier horror show. Not convinced by Danny Rose at all. The conspiracy theorist in me can’t help but think Sheff Utd just willingly rolled over there. Onwards and upwards, hopefully a win over Villa next will allow the team to enjoy their football a bit more and we see another good, end of season, flourish.
