A Bargain Buy Last Summer – He’s One Of The Most Naturally Gifted Players I’ve Worked With

Allan Saint-Maximin was signed from Nice last summer for just £16.5M, and he’s already looking like another excellent acquisition for Newcastle.

In yesterday’s game he scored an excellent poacher’s goal, and if he can add more goals to his game – he has scored two goals in the last 2 games – he can become one of the best players in the Premier League.

H was certainly a shining light throughout the game yesterday.

And yes, he’s quite a character too: he had a tough upbringing in Châtenay-Malabry, a suburb of Paris, and he is of Guadeloupean and French Guianese descent.

He also has a heart of gold, and Newcastle fans have quickly taken to the 23-year-old who is a joy to watch when he’s on song – and he was in good voice yesterday.

Steve Bruce today has said he is one of the most naturally gifted players he has ever coached in his long 22 years of football management.

It was an excellent performance from the lads yesterday: a good team effort and now we have to beat a struggling Aston Villa side at home on Wednesday.

    Mund,
can`t remember the last time we had a player as dynamic as Max, he does`nt remind me of anyone we have had in the past.

One of the best players we’ve bought in recent times IMO.

Seems to happen a lot in spain, their tax system seems archaic compared to ours.

I think hell stay. The new owners will tie him up and I think the only thing that will change is if he has his head turned by the prospect of CH league instantly with Liverpool.

Surely he’s similar to Ben Arfa.

What I love about ASM is his refusal to panic under pressure. There was a point yesterday when SU had a corner. The ball was cleared to ASM on the left just outside our area. He controlled the ball, looked up, had two SU players bearing down on him, dropped a shoulder, went the other way, lost both of them and then looked up again to see what was on.

He does the same at the other end of the pitch, it’s his ability to accelerate and change direction so quickly that has defenders falling over themselves.

On Bruce, I agree with most comments, he’s done a really great job, better than any of our (admittedly low) expectations and deserves to be offered something, but if we are to become as ambitious as I’m pretty sure the Saudis are for us, then he will not be kept on as Head Coach.

    Same WL

People compare him to Ben Arfa but there’s a lot more to Maxi than there was Benny boy.

I think I was talking to you about it yesterday but I’m totally surprised by his quality and end product. Total match winner and they are gold dust we are lucky to have him and such a great bloke as well despite the reputation he brought with him.

ASM has as physicality to him that the likes of Robert and Ben Afra didn’t. He’s able to shield the ball with so much strength, not many wingers can do that. As a result, he’s able to lean into an opponent while in possession, turn and like that….. he’s gone.

Best thing about ASM is he doesn’t let it go to his head and appreciates what he has and the club and fans.

We need to build a team around him

    Mund,

He is like Troare of Wolves, seems strong as an ox and pace to burn. The way he went past the SHeff Us right back early in the first half as though he was,nt there was frightening.
The only reason i think we can keep him is the Saudi takeover and ambtion that hopefully goes with it. If it was,nt for that i think he would be off.

St Maxi just seems to enjoy life, including his football. His personality is infectious, on the pitch and off it. During lockdown him sharing videos nutmegging his dog and putting his kids on their backsides with his dribbling were hilarious, great to see him doing the same to the Sheffield United players yesterday.

He could become a Toon legend if he sticks around. Why wouldn’t he? He could achieve everything he wants to in his career if this takeover comes off (it will) and he’s only a 30 minute flight from Paris too.

We should build our team around him. I don’t think he would be tempted by Liverpool, I think he genuinely loves it here.

The way fat Ash operates the club, ASM is guaranteed to have some sort of release clause especially to champions league club.
