Newcastle Well Positioned To Climb Further Up The League Table

In what was thought to be a difficult game yesterday against 7th placed Sheffield United, we won 3-0 going away.

The Blades were reduced to 10 men just after the break when John Egan was sent off, but few would say Newcastle didn’t deserve all 3 points yesterday.

We are now 11 points above the drop zone with 8 games to play, and we seem to be well-positioned to climb even further up the league table in the final 8 games of the season, which will be played before the end of next month.

The lads looked fit and well-organized yesterday, and we scored 3 goals, which in itself was a surprise.

Next up for the lads are Aston Villa, who are second-bottom on 26 points, 12 points behind Newcastle.

Another 3 points in the game on Wednesday at home will undoubtedly mean we are safe for the season.

Joelinton scores after 78 minutes yesterday against the Blades

But nothing is ever certain in the Premier League, and we should not expect this game to be as easy as it may look on paper.

Villa have some excellent players, and they are also fighting for their lives to stay in the wealthy Premier League.

But if we can get the win, we will be on 41 points from 31 games, and that would be really great.

Here’s how we stand at the moment with Burnley to play at Manchester City today.

PosTeamGamesGDPoints
10Burnley38-754

13Newcastle38-2044
14Crystal Palace38-1943
15Brighton38-1541
16West Ham38-1339

Notice we are just 2 points behind the Gunners and 10th place.

That’s Rafa off the list then

Bruce did try to change it up and it misfired. The players were too wed to the Rafa system.

Rotonda – Nice try wiping egg off your face. I don’t believe fans were justifiably unimpressed by the negative tactics. Fans should have been wise enough to recognise that the squad wasn’t equipped to put on a show AND get the points needed to survive in the first half of the season. Everyone’s sweet on Bruce today – that’s easy. The stampy feet brigade need to recognise the massively undermining effects of Ashley’s systematic mismanagement on him and any other previous manager – so when results aren’t so favourable (as they will be) you don’t throw your toys out the pram immediately again.

Good morning lads n lasses, what a day yesterday . When your team wins it makes all the difference the next morning , all the smiling faces.

I think the way Bruce is setting us up now is the way to go til the end of the season. We look much more attractive on the eye with four at the back.
I don`t want to tempt fate but if we play like we did yesterday then we should beat Villa.
By the way, quite a few posters want Grealish at the club next season, and i am guilty of thinking he would be a great addition to the squad, i have changed my mind.

The Gooners have been poor and their fans are fed up, and some quite worried for next season. All that money spent and their team are shite. Take away their striker and they would be below us.

JP from the Rock “I wouldn’t trust Brucie with bucket loads of money to sign players.”

Brucie is 1st team coach, he won’t be signing players, he’ll have to mould any players signed into an effective team. If he can’t do that, he’ll be on his bike.

    WLtoon,

Grealish looks a talented player (certainly against a rather ordinary Villa team) but he has a very flaky character. He acts like a prima donna. I doubt Lascelles would take kindly to him.

Arch what age are you? I’m guessing you’re in your 60’s you alluded to a very old drug in Mandrax on an earlier post. That stuff hasn’t been around since the 70’s and hasn’t been on the black market since the early early 80’s. Its Metaqualone or perhaps better known as Quaaludes in America. I think the last place to prescribe it legally was south Africa.

It was prescribed in the UK as Mandrax but it got passed out because it’s too dangerous and addictive and has a very low LD50 which means the dose you take for medical effect is not a huge amount less than the dose that would kill 50% of the people who took that dose. It’s very like Barbiturates in that sense, which themselves are almost never prescribed anymore except phenobarbital for extreme epilepsy. I have an old BNF of medical formulary from the 80’s and Mandrax isnt in it, so it got phased out in the uk very early 80’s

True, but if you look at the Gunners 1st team and how much it cost then they are massively under achieving. Our team cost peanuts compared to theirs.

Some players looked knackered and walking gingerly after the game yesterday – blisters ??? maybe!!

RobLeenio- didn’t Rafa have final say on transfers? I Don’t trust Bruce’s judgement on which players we should get if he too has final say.

If we end up having a setup of the manager targetting players to buy I’d be terrified with Brucie. If he has final say it’s bad enough already.

Not so sure, I remember when Grealish scored that goal when we were in the championship and it helped us steal top spot from Brighton.

He was then seen out with several Newcastle stars having a drink (click link below). I think from the pictures he would fit into the team perfectly.

All this talk of Grealish started around the time we started believing we were getting new owners.

Personally I don’t see all the hype about the lad. He is just one of those players who looks better playing in a bad team rather than having real quality. He is a good player I’ll admit that but wouldn’t be the kind of player is go for with the new regime.

JP who would you switch him with in team? He is a inside left forward and so is ASM

    Pat

Not wiping egg off my face at all. Plenty of people were fed up with the way we were playing, in fact 10000 walked away and it wasn’t just down to people wanting ash out as we are reminded by those know all sages that boycotts don’t work, hahaha!!

The stats didn’t lie and it was awful to watch. We just saw 3 goalless home draws prior to Soto. Anyone defending that is in cloud cuckoo land.

Unlike others who wouldn’t give rafa any credit whatsoever and are trying to compare bruce with him over 1 incomplete season instead of a 20 year career I freely admit the football has improved in the last 4 games having gone to a back 4.

If someone improves I recognise it and always have done. I don’t take against someone for the sake of it like a rabid catchy. To do otherwise would be rather churlish wouldn’t you agree Pat? You say Bruce had a bad hand, I disagree. On paper none of sheffield’s journeymen would get in our team.

So Pat, on reflection try not to sound too much of a smug t–t. It’s not a good look.

Pat On The Heed- some good names in there along with some shockingly poor ones. But all managers sign duds. How many players have been under his recommendation is detable. But would you be happy to have an average joe like Brucie trying to convince World Class players they should be playing for the Toon, or an already promising manager with relative success? I know what I’d prefer every day of the week.

    Jail,

    From earlier…

You say ask Souness if he’d rather have Bruce than Klopp.

What a ridiculous question to try and knock Bruce down.

And as for asking Neville if he’d swop him for OGS, who knows… OSG isn’t exactly pulling up trees.

I’m sure no fan thinks Bruce is in the elite bracket of managers but he has done a good job getting us where we are without Rondon and Perez and a misfiring Jo and injured AC.

He has also conducted himself with total professionalism and dignity despite huge personal criticism and ridicule.

Reasonably minded fans will give him the credit he deserves and I am sure I am not alone in giving him increasing respect for the job he has done.

If he is replaced he’ll go with his head held high and a big thanks from many of us.
