Bruce Doesn’t Tinker Much In Our Predicted Team For Aston Villa

Here is our predicted lineup for Wednesday’s match against Aston Villa. It has just one change from the Sheffield game with Fabian Schar coming in for Federico Fernandez.

Even though it’ll just be three days since the win over the Blades, we are not that confident Steve Bruce will actually make any changes.

However, with the squad down to just three center-backs in training, some rotation may be necessary to keep them as fresh as possible with the FA Cup quarter-final looming on Sunday.

We base our predicted team primarily on the following comment Bruce made during his press conference on Tuesday morning:

“I’m sure there’ll come a time when we need to change (the team). Whether we do it tomorrow so quickly, we’ll assess that.

“It helps to make 5 substitutions like we can. We’ll see how we’ve recovered, but there’ll definitely be a time for change at some point”

This sounds to us like Bruce is going to go with the team that did so well on Sunday and maybe utilize more of his five substitutions.

It makes sense to keep the same team with minimal changes for right now. While the lads technically may be short of match practice, they didn’t look like it at the weekend.

If they have recovered enough to go on Wednesday, Bruce is likely to reward them with another start against Villa.

The more they play the more match fit they get, to be fair I was impressed with the fitness of the lads for the first game back

Bit late to the AC rehire party but what on earth are they thinking? We shouldn’t have got him the first time let alone giving a 1 in 10 appearance sub another year. Are they really spinning out this Geordie Talisman thing? Totally spurious and unnecessary appointment, same as the manager

Actually we looked a lot sharper than Sheff U. They made about four or five really tired looking passes we intercepted and should have made more of. And the 30 yard nutmeg had the look of fatigue – induced lack of concentration. Bit dumbing down our performance, it looked like we had been training properly for the game and sheff just turned up thinking they would do ok.

Anglo, it must be said, your vocabulary has improved throughout the day—at least you are no longer using ‘descriptive’ words like “retard”.

We should all seek daily improvements. A shining light you are.

We’ll be ditching Gayle and Muto in the summer for upgrades, keeping Joelinton and Carroll and bringing in two others. Four strikers in a squad of 25 is probably right, but Carroll won’t be used as much.

However, what a warhorse to trundle out on occasion.

You are the only one who has mentioned AC being a Geordie.
for the rest of us he’s a big handy unit that doesn’t cost much.

Carroll on a pay as you play as a 4th striker is a no brainer. Great person to have around the team.

It certainly doesn’t mean the takeover is dead *facepalm *

Disappointed regarding takeover, if AC is being kept on. Can’t see a scenario where that is in a new owners interest.

From memory, after 30 PL games and countless cup games I think Carroll has started four and been a sub in ten with no goals and a couple of assists. That means he has featured in just over a third of our games this season. How does that justify giving him a squad place and if they don’t manage to flog Dwight Gayle or Muto who is going to get the goals

Interesting draw with Brighton and Leicester. Seems like Leicester think they have a champs League spot sewn up already.

Still looking up the League, but we’ll not catch Leicester at this point.

NUST have engaged ‘legal counsel’ to write to the premier League to urge them to pass the takeover on behalf of their members.

I like Andy Carroll but the truth is that if he was fit he’d be still worth 20M and 80K a week and would not be here. There’s a reason he’s cheap. Glenn Murray is a big old unit impact sub, but he’s available to play, takes part in training and is on the bench every week. If AC could even manage that he’d be a no brainer. But he isn’t.

What a waste he was when we got promoted that half season before he went to Liverpool he was unplayable. I’d keep him for another season even if available for half the games more effective than Muto Gayle.
