Here is our predicted lineup for Wednesday’s match against Aston Villa. It has just one change from the Sheffield game with Fabian Schar coming in for Federico Fernandez.
Even though it’ll just be three days since the win over the Blades, we are not that confident Steve Bruce will actually make any changes.
However, with the squad down to just three center-backs in training, some rotation may be necessary to keep them as fresh as possible with the FA Cup quarter-final looming on Sunday.
We base our predicted team primarily on the following comment Bruce made during his press conference on Tuesday morning:
“I’m sure there’ll come a time when we need to change (the team). Whether we do it tomorrow so quickly, we’ll assess that.
“It helps to make 5 substitutions like we can. We’ll see how we’ve recovered, but there’ll definitely be a time for change at some point”
This sounds to us like Bruce is going to go with the team that did so well on Sunday and maybe utilize more of his five substitutions.
It makes sense to keep the same team with minimal changes for right now. While the lads technically may be short of match practice, they didn’t look like it at the weekend.
If they have recovered enough to go on Wednesday, Bruce is likely to reward them with another start against Villa.
