Two Magpies Make Alan Shearer’s Team Of The Week

Alan Shearer has just selected his team of the week for this past weekend’s action. He’s put both Isaac Hayden and Allan Saint-Maximin in the team.

There are a few other Magpies that could have also been selected as well. We think both Matt Ritchie and Miguel Almiron had solid games.

However, there’s no doubting Allan Saint-Maximin and Isaac Hayden deserved to be selected by Alan. Both players also fared very well in our man of the match poll.

You can always tell when Alan Shearer is very pleased with a Newcastle performance because he makes sure a few Magpies are in his team of the week. This past weekend was no different.

Neil, I think either one of our CBs could have gone in there too. Probably Fede, of the two but I thought both were excellent.

Agreed Hayden was excellent, been really impressed with him. It’s a position that we do need an upgrade in tho to kick on somewhat. Ball winning midfielder crucial to any team.

    Namaste blog brethren and sistren,

How are we feeling about tomorrow’s Villa game? With our team there is always the fear that they will underperform on the games that are easy on paper, but I hope Brucie has them up for it (touch wood).

Also does anyone think we will make changes to the XI? I think we should start with the same, get the job done in hopefully an hour, and then give the likes of Bentaleb, Lazaro, and Muto a solid 20-30 minutes.

Bruce didn’t seem to be in any hurry to make changes against during the match against Sheff Utd, don’t remember any subs until about 70 mins so I wouldn’t be surprised to see us line up similarly again. It seems he had faith in the team that started that game.

    Rob,
Yeah, some great memories, (and some not so great) Fraudew, Charver, That Dutch manager (steve mclaren) and Cockney Joe , Dennis the menace and old Owl heed….all highlights of the slug era…..hopefully soon to be swept under the carpet with the rest of the pocket lint

Think we could do the business against Villa. They do not look all that good. They do have a few players that could score/lucky shots etc.

Like to see Villa down and West Ham.
Hammers historically always had an “in” with the football authorities – purely on the basis of Moore, Hurst, Peters and later Brooking. Always seemed to have some influence. Probably not now though.

@Mr Tuff Agreed. They have some flair players who we shouldn’t allow to settle in their groove, Grealish of course but also El Ghazi. Samatta looks to be a decent CF (if he plays), but I have faith in Lascelles and Fede to stop him.

On that note, just how good has Fede been defensively! With Lascelles, you sometimes worry that he is not quite sure what to do with the ball at his feet, and his passing has been sometimes questionable. But Fede seems to make the right choice almost every time! You can understand why he is ahead of Schar and Lejeune, both of whom probably are more skilful with the ball at their feet but not as tuned in defensively.

Probably very much the same team with subs on a bit earlier if it is going well I would like the score to be 9-0 to the toon so I can really rub it in to a couple of aquaintances

I’d like to think we’ll beat villa too. Should be a close game, can’t see there being much more than a goal or two in it. They’ll want points from us at home with where they are sitting in the league currently, so they might try to attack us but I think we’ve got enough about us to pinch it.

I want revenge if I could have any performance I’d want to totally outclass them like they did to us at Villa Park. If we continue on the same fashion we should ok and set for a result.

IITian – need to get after Grealish and not give him any peace. We all know giving him space to turn will allow him to pick out some tremendous passes.

Decent save, not a great pen but it was low and awkward for the keeper. He still had work to do though and did well.

I think he will make a few changes keeping in mind City game. Although would love to beat Villa and love them to go down. Never forgive them for the game when we went down. Also sky pundits talk about their great support even though they closed a stand in championship when we were getting close to 50000.

    Kev,
TBF, Penalties should not be saved as often as they are, i’m not sure if it’s better keepers , indecision by the taker or just the pressure ……either way Kasper has done us a solid, an i thank him for that.

Rotonda on last thread – agree with you. Bruce;s football has improved and its fair to acknowledge it . Im guilty or comparing Rafa and Bruce a lot, even if one has a far greater Cv, but i guess its a blog fault generally.

Glad I didnt spend too long checking the blog today – one skirmish after another.

Should be interesting to see this place explode in a few days 🙂
