The lads have come back from their three-month break and have hit the ground running.
Four points from two games should have been 6 points, but we’ll take the 4 points, and we are now 12 points above the drop zone with 7 games to play.
We also have the 4th round of the FA Cup at home to Manchester City tomorrow night, so things have gone from nothing to full steam ahead as far as playing games is concerned.
Project Restart so far has been successful as long as we can keep the coronavirus infections down.
The league is due to end four weeks tomorrow, and Liverpool are the Champions of the Premier League for the first time in their history.
Hopefully, if Newcastle are acquired by the Amanda Staveley consortium, we can start making some inroads to become regularly part of the top six in the Premier League.
Here’s where we stand at the moment – still in 13th place despite those 4 points in the previous two games:
[table “84” not found /]Steve Bruce (shown above) seems very pleased with the way things are going as he had this today yesterday in his press conference:
What we have done in the last six or seven games has enabled us to be a bit more of a threat going forward.”
“Touch wood, defensively we have been rock solid, long may it continue.”
“It is important that we don’t think we have achieved something, and we don’t down tools.”
“We have put a decent little run together after lockdown and to get four points from six, which might have been six from six, had it not been a rare defensive lapse.”
“Overall, I’ve been very pleased with the way we are.
“We have one or two knocks, and we have to see how we are, on the quiet we have done OK.”
And here are the upcoming fixtures starting with with our tough FA Cup quarter-final tie at home tomorrow.

I don’t really think it matters. Forcing buyers to purchase TV rights if they want to buy a team is not part of the O+D tests and never has been. They couldn’t legally enforce this and if they tried to force the Saudi government’s hand they will get torn a few new openings.

Not a straight forward decision on selection…

Comment #3Id think the Saudis want to get a tv deal sorted so they can legally watch us play, buying a club and not being able to watch them doesnt make sense.
Maybe BeIn and the PL are laying done the rules that need to be in place before they will allow them to arrange a deal.

5-4-1 with Schar filling it at CM with Matty, who’s most likely to be fit of our natural CM options?

I think its all combined tbh, so many moving pieces at work causing the delay.
If KSA want to watch us they will probably want to get their own TV deal as I cant see them allowing BeIN into the country, maybe that is being negotiated with compensation required for BeIN who have the rights? Its all guesswork really though, the piracy actions are needed regardless of anything tho.
Or maybe there is no bid and its all make believe 🙂

Comment #11If we can give sick note Carroll a new contract then i can`t see why giving Jetro one should be a problem.
He has been the best full back here this season imo, and it seems he really wants to be here, unlike Rose.

Comment #13The PL have a duty to their members to eradicate the piracy as it serves to devalue the TV rights in the Middle East. It might not be part of the fit and proper tests but they will still be pushing for assurances on this matter. If they didn’t they would look weak. And I want them to force the issue, but ultimately I want the deal to be done and without further delay.

On the side for tomorrow Id go 5311, have AS playing centrally off AC and dont get him to do much defending – if we get it go direct to AC and try to get AS in the 10 role and let him run. The rest of the team set u to contain City, .

Can Dummett play? Is the 25 man squad only for the PL? cant remember if the FACup allows it?
Could put Dummett into the left CB role and move Schar into holding CM if we dont have enough fit CMs.

Comment #16The takeover is all hearsay, what happened to Caulkin being the best ITK source? This is why i was negative yesterday, its getting to the point where its all too familiar than any other so called takeover.
Apparently Staveley has had at least 2 years to prepare for this attempt and was supposedly ready for any obstacles thrown in her way, so, if that is the case, why is this piracy issue taking so long to sort out.
Bad preparation , no other reason for it.

I thought bein was already available in KSA? I’m sure there was a discussion on it recently and a lot of people on twitter were pointing out that it had always been available there? I may have misremembered though.

Comment #18Captain, that’s why I’m conflicted.
I fell in love with the Toon and the city/region when living there in the early 80’s. For me the thrill of the match has been the atmosphere and not particularly the stuff on the pitch. I’m not bothered about watching footy on computer games. My greatest moments as a fan have been amongst thousands of mad hilarious Geordies, at Wembley, Cardiff and Old Trafford. Win or lose it was simply magnificent! I will still punch the air if we score and win, but I won’t like it.

Comment #19Were not really waiting on the pl, it hasn’t really took 13 weeks for a 2-4 week process, they Saudis haven’t started to lift the embargo on Qatar and allowed beIN to broadcast in sa, they haven’t gone to massive effort to eradicate over 200 pirate broadcasters, they haven’t spent massiveoney and effort setting up a whole new division or government agency to crack down on piracy, and they haven’t bought shares in BT all without knowing they bought Newcastle yet.
Or maybe they have bought us already and there waiting on safety to finalise it, but nooooo that’s too out there to believe that theory. But naaah I cant be right all along surely.
It may be announced end of next week if we win midweek or it mY be announced amy day now as were basically safe now, or they may even wait until the pl is done but its getting very close now.

Comment #22The PL must think that if the Saudi,s eradicate piracy in the region that there will be no more dodgy streams, lets all laugh at that notion shall we.
Where there is a will there is a way, there will always be some smart arse coming up with a way for pirate games.
How many posters have viewed PL games on a dodgy stream which is`nt arabic, i reckon at least 50%

Comment #24There are 2 very readable books out there that are a must read for Toon fans. I would advise the new owners to read them as it explains what we are about. ‘They wonder why we drink’ and ‘a mag for all seasons’. Written by Billy Furious. If you haven’t read them then I suggest you do so. It’s why footy without fans is a complete non event.

Comment #30Most ridiculous thing I’ve heard. Suggesting that need to buy some tv rights to pass an owners and directors test that has set out criteria is at best case Ludicrous journalism and at worst case nothing short of corrupt by PL, I think it is highly likely to be the former

Comment #35Not sure if this info is still up to date or if the rules have changed, but it looks like Dummett would be elegible:
“Even if a player is not named in the 25-man squad, they can still play in the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League or Europa League.”
https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/new-premier-league-25-man-squad-3349993
The Champs League and Europa have their own separate registers, so the 25 you pick for the league doesn’t have to be the same 25 as in those competitions, but it looks like the FA cup is a bit of a free-for-all.
