Newcastle Park The Bus And Trail Manchester City 1-0 At The Half

As expected, Manchester City came out on the front foot to start the match with much of the play occurring in the Newcastle end. The visitors also launched twelve shots in the first twenty-five minutes.

Newcastle actually got the first shot on target through an Andy Carroll effort in the 13th minute that was easily collected by Claudio Bravo. However, Manchester City soon started to threaten Karl Darlow, forcing him into a couple of saves before the water break.

The back five were very well organized and held their shape. However, Newcastle were pegged back, inviting far too much pressure from City.

While it was coming, conceding a penalty on a needless push by Fabian Schar on Gabriel Jesus was just deflating. Kevin De Bruyne converted the subsequent penalty as Karl Darlow dove the wrong way.

It’s been complete domination by the visitors who had 86% of the possession and outshot Newcastle 16 to 2. Allan Saint-Maximin has also been off this evening. He squandered possession numerous times in the half.

Bruce will have to try something different in the second half to have a chance of advancing to the semi-finals. While the lads held up well under immense pressure, they’ve given Manchester City too much time on the ball and shown nothing going forward.

Bruce should go 4-4-2 with Gayle to replace Miggy and Matty to replace Schar.

Mendy is a liability defending as he proved vs Chelsea. ASM should be up against him instead of Walker.

ASM is largely ineffective on the left hand side always gets crowded out

So much more productive on the right wing

    Gothmog

You’d think seeing ASM consistently play better on the RW, in combination with seeing Mendy get rinsed by a quick dribbler with nifty feet would lead to the obvious conclusion, especially when you’re playing a target man who thrives on crosses and have another quick left-footed player to put on the LW.

Sometimes you are just nowhere near as good as your opposition and you just have to do what you can. So far we’ve got to 60 mins and we’re in the game, only a goal down, the lads are trying their utmost against one of the 5 best teams in the world. It is what it is, but it’s more fun to watch if you try and look for the positives and just hope that something happens for us, than whining on and picking up on the errors. Sat next to such fans loads. Prefer to complain than encourage. Why watch?
