Pundit Sees Newcastle Achieving Their Aims Against Bournemouth On Wednesday

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for this week’s Premier League fixtures. He’s going with a 0-0 draw for Newcastle at Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Here’s his prediction in full:

Newcastle didn’t turn up in the first half against Manchester City and it was probably just as well there were no fans inside St James’ Park because they would have been howling about that.

They were better in the second half but there’s still no way that they could say they deserved to go through and they did not really even have a proper go at City.

Staying up was the aim for the season, though, and they probably need one more point to be sure of doing that.

I think they will get it on Wednesday. Magpies boss Steve Bruce will play his best team this time and Bournemouth have lost both of their games since the restart and are all over the place.

The only positive thing for the Cherries so far is that everyone else around them, apart from Brighton, have not picked up many points either.

Lawrenson has done quite well in his Newcastle predictions this season. He had five straight results correct before the coronavirus struck. He ended up amending his earlier prediction of a win against Sheffield United to a draw, and that snapped his streak.

However, he’s got the last two results dead on with the draw against Villa and the defeat to Manchester City.

A draw will have Newcastle reach that magical 40 point total with six games remaining all but ensuring safety. But in all likelihood, we are safe now sitting 12 points above our opponents this Wednesday.

Bournemouth are currently in the final relegation place but, as Lawro says, despite losing two on the trot since the league resumed, have not lost much ground. The issue with them is they’ve not gained any either.

With Brighton picking up four points from their two games, it’s looking like a five club battle to escape the drop for the remainder of the season.

Bournemouth have done well to remain in the league since coming up five years ago. But this time, they are in a real battle for survival.

Like we said against Aston Villa, Bournemouth are desperate to get three points, so Newcastle will have to put in an improved performance to get a result.
